Description

This GENUINE PARKER FURNITURE 2-seater sofa SOLD through iNVISeDGE for $795 back in 2005. In 2019 I would have priced the exact same sofa for around $1100 IF I found another. (Estimate is for a sofa in “as is” condition with the original upholstery in very good condition). 2020 UPDATE- lots of people want to buy one of these and we’ve not found any for 15 years- value in 2020 – $1295 IF WE FOUND ANOTHER. Currently NOT IN STOCK! Most people want 3-seater sofas so shorter sofas have a disproportionately lower value.

Background Info and Provenance

I can’t find the description I wrote for this piece back in 2005 when this piece was sold. The biggest selling point is that this is a genuine VINTAGE Parker sofa and that these are loose cushions sitting on a (beautifully sculpted) timber frame. This makes the piece one of the most practical lounge sofas on the market. Re-upholstery and cleaning the covers is the easiest out of any sofa you can buy. The other big selling point is the investment appeal- Parker Furniture is probably the most sought-after furniture brand to ever come out of Australia and this particular design from the early 1960’s is easily their most popular and celebrated. The values of the most sought-after Parker designs have steadily increased over the years (as demonstrated in the values given above).

As a result, Parker Furniture started back up again around 2008. They re-released this design (though I’m not sure if the two-seater was made again). The SINGLE-SEATER chairs in this design were being sold through David Jones for $3495 EACH just a couple of years ago. Parker Furniture at the values quoted above is extremely good buying and an investment thats very likely to increase in value in the future.

This vintage 2-seater is photographed in AS FOUND condition. The covers (from the 1960’s) were in good condition but this design looks better with a fabric that’s more muted in colour. I feel that this style looks best when there is a subtle contrast to the fabric so the beautifully sculpted frame takes focus. Earthy tones work well with these frames as do greys, charcoal and sandstone colours.
