Description
SOLD DURING LOCKDOWN IN THE FIRST FEW HOURS IT WAS LISTED ON THE iNVISeDGE WEBSITE (NEWLY LISTED CATEGORY). It sold before it appeared elsewhere online.
The listed price is for the Flexalum extension dining table only. These extension tables are incredibly RARE! This table is coming out of my own personal furniture collection- I’m currently living in various locations and won’t be buying another apartment for about 3 years- I’d rather not pay to store it that long so I’m reluctantly letting it go. I’ve had it since 2017 and have had several people express interest in buying it. I’ve been keeping an eye out for another one and haven’t found one in the last 3 years. This is the only one I’ve ever seen in the flesh (after being in this business for 18 years- written, 2020).
THIS TABLE WILL NOT LOSE VALUE LIKE NEW OUTDOOR FURNITURE AND THE QUALITY OF MANUFACTURE IS IRREFUTABLE- look at it after 60-ODD YEARS outside! (In essence you get to use it and not pay anything for the privilege!) I can’t see any reason why Flexalum furniture won’t at least retain its value forever (but it’s likely it will continue to appreciate in the future along with inflation). FLEXALUM FURNITURE DOES NOT CORRODE IN FULL WEATHER. My Flexalum furniture was put on the rooftop of a beach-side apartment. NO CORRISION even after exposure to salt air. I didn’t even wash it down for 2.5 years and look at it!
Provenance and Background Information
(This description was written in 2017)
A VINTAGE Flexalum extension table (made in Australia the late 1950’s) from thick cast-ALUMINIUM. This is very strong and sturdy- I can’t see how it could ever have any structural problem. This table has NO corrosion AT ALL which is extraordinary for something that has gone out in full weather. It has already lasted about 60 years and I can’t see why it won’t last forever!
This piece is very cool because it comes with an extension piece. This makes it as practical as it gets- the length can be extended to accommodate 6 chairs comfortably (or 8 at a squeeze). Folded up it’s a compact unit that accommodates 4.
If you need extra table space or extra seating for a party, add in the extension piece- on a small balcony it’s perfect because it can be so compact- but the extension piece will always give it extra usage possibilities. This makes it a lifetime investment because you’ll be able to use it in any place you live in. In a larger outdoor space it can be set up with 6 chairs but if you move to a smaller space the extension piece can be removed to become compact (Flexalum chairs are small too, so 2 extra chairs could even be put away in a wardrobe when not needed.)
This table is vintage cast aluminium (there’s no cheap alloys in it to “pad it out”). It’s thick metal but because it’s aluminium it’s easy to move around, Flexalum furniture won’t blow over in strong wind and won’t corrode at all. The extension piece is fiddly to get in (it bolts in) so it may not work if you intend extending and closing it up constantly.
The best thing about investing in Flexalum furniture is the inspiration it evokes- it ticks every box and provides a benchmark for modern companies to work towards. This furniture was built to last and will continue telling stories long after you and I are gone. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
