Provenance and Background Info

(Written in 2020. Some information in this listing may be time-sensitive.)

A Borge Mogensen designed oak sideboard made in Sweden in the 1960’s / 1970’s. In this genre and colour-tone it’s at the pinnacle- smaller vintage sideboards like this are REALLY hard to get in Australia. I love the OAK timber too- it’s “cleaner” and more refined in looks compared to the standard teak and blackwood ones made in Australia around the same time. (The teak ones can look quite bold because they’re dark.) This piece is the epitome of minimalist but still with a cool retro/Danish look. It will add personality to your space- especially a modern minimalist apartment (which typically are quite hard to furnish and look “right”). In a smaller space you need something that’s not imposing and this piece is exactly that.

The thing I love most about this cabinet is the QUALITY. It easily EXCEEDS the quality of any Parker sideboard. No shitty Parker “Weetbix” chipboard with thin teak veneer here. If you knock the back edges of Parker sideboards they just crumble away (like Weetbix) and if you leave a cold drink on a Parker sideboard, the veneer will often bubble up. (And then the cabinet immediately loses half its value.) As a result, Parker storage pieces can’t really be called an “investment” which is why iNVISeDGE don’t stock them. We only stock items that will be passed onto future generations (and avoid landfill) if they’re looked after.

This piece is constructed of SOLID timber with a quality oak veneer on top- Parker is just chipboard, extremely well-made but just chipboard. This one has been built to last the long haul- it will outlive both you if you look after it. This cabinet has a metal bolt that screws into a metal attachment. It’s a smaller piece so has less weight in it- this is the perfect attachment (from a quality-standpoint).

Even though quality comes first with iNVISeDGE, looks are important as well- after-all you may have to live with this thing for 20+ years! In this style you’d be hard pressed to find a more stylish unit. The style is “clean” and refined yet also geometric and classic. In Australia the popularity of something like this is unwavering- people have consistently wanted sideboards in this style for the full 20 years I’ve been in this business. They’re a mainstay and have come to supersede trends (and did so many years ago).

Which brings us to investment appeal. At iNVISeDGE we don’t believe you should be “purchasing” furniture anymore. Our aim is to ONLY stock items with inherent value- items that won’t lose value after you buy them. 99.15% of the furniture items we’ve stocked in the past 20 years have INCREASED in value and some markedly so! We’ve sold pieces in the past that are now worth over 6 TIMES more than what our customer paid for them! This exact vintage piece is currently for sale on an Australian website for $3300. There’s a similar Borge Mogensten piece on an international website for over 2900 euro (equivalent to AUD $3600). (See the screenshots provided in this listing). The investment appeal on offer here is a no-brainer. I believe it will increase in value along with inflation forever.

A1 quality, A1 looks, A1 investment potential, timeless styling which leaves us with functionality- obviously another big tick here. Morgensen is not going to create such a quality piece and forget that. The shelves are easily removable or adjustable in height via metal runners (see the photos).

At $1695 you can pay similar for something that’s been flat-packed in China and sent across the ocean in the millions (and end up as our landfill within years). Investing in this piece is a win – win – win. With the obvious inherent value it’s a win for you. Because it is already about 30 – 50 years old it’s a win for our environment because it won’t be ending up as landfill anytime soon. And it’s a win for supporting local small business and people in our local community. We can’t compete with developing countries and 50 cent / hour labour costs. We need to start supporting local CONSTRUCTIVE industry (instead of a local destructive economy- mines and decimating the Australia environment to build more and more.) Sometimes less really is best!

2012

This piece is 30 to 50 years old and presents very well for its age. It’s in brilliant structural condition with NO cracks around any joint, NO repairs, NO breaks, NO loose joints. ALL aspects of the cabinet are in good functional order- the shelves adjust and pull out as they should. Cosmetically the cabinet is also in excellent condition. It’s about 40 years old so NOT new and has obviously been used but you’d be hard pressed to find evidence of it’s past life / lives. It has been EXTREMELY well looked after. NO crumbling or flaking edges that we see on so many other vintage sideboards. The piece retains the original Borge Mogensen label on the back. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Use the Zoom-In tool for full assurance of the quality and condition of what you’re buying.
