Background Info and Provenance

An art glass bowl made BY HAND by Robert Gatt at his Port Fairy Glass studio (about 3.5 hours out of Melbourne, heading towards Adelaide). This piece is about 20 years old and has been made masterfully by this well-known figure in Australian glass.
I LOVE the colours! They seem to have an ethereal glow to them. I also love the wispy flow of the design. The motion draws you in and holds your attention. This one is a good size to be used as a fruit bowl- it’s a tall piece and can hold up to 5 or 6 pieces of fruit (another advantage of investing in this beautiful piece).
In 1993, Robert Gatt and Freya Marriott set up their studio in picturesque Port Fairy where the sea breeze provides them with relief from the blast of their blazing furnaces. The studio is still in operation to this day. New Robert Gatt pieces can be obtained directly from their studio or online. A piece of this complexity and size would command about AU $180 today which also makes this one a solid investment opportunity. Watch this piece continue to increase in value along with inflation.
Art-glass pumped out by factories in the thousands by machines is cheap and rarely ignites any inspiration and passion- most ends up as landfill within a few years because after the trend has moved on, the piece is basically worthless. Robert Gatt and Freya Marriott’s work show us the talent of artists’ hands and their heart and soul. Their art will continue to tell stories for generations to come. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

This vintage Robert Gatt piece is in excellent condition for its age with no noticeable damage to report at all. NO cracks, NO chips, NO repairs. It presents extremely well. I’ve looked at it closely and can’t fault it. This generous-sized Robert Gatt glass piece has a height of about 10cm and is 19cm across at it's widest. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
