Provenance and Background Information
(Written in 2023)
In my opinion, this is the most stunning chair I’ve had in over 21 years of trading. Yes- I’ve had Featherston contour chairs by Grant Featherston, incredible Rufenacht chairs over the years, various Norwegian Falcon chairs and too many others to list, but I think this is the best of the best out of any chair I’ve ever had. Featherston contour chairs are obviously special but they simply are not as good as this. The bases on Featherston contour chairs are notorious for breaking- the full structure of this one on the other hand is STEEL (including the inner-frame). The structure of this Moroso chair is basically impossible to break. I also think that the shape of this one comes up trumps over the shape of a Featherston- I like the look of this one more but that statement is not so straight-forward. In a vintage home or interior you certainly wouldn’t use this chair (unless you were very clever I suppose. It does have a retro shape but the modernist flavour definitely comes up trumps.) In a retro home it could certainly be used with startling effect (because it wouldn’t be the most obvious choice) but a penthouse apartment is where I can really see this piece lifting a space and taking it to the next level.
At this stage I am under the impression that this particular chair is a limited edition or special edition. We have the feeling that Moroso collaborated with a high-profile designer who chose the two different fabrics used in this particular piece. I like this particular chair because of the fabric choice. The black on the outside accentuates the incredible shape of the piece. The shape becomes the “hero”. The inner-fabric adds an opulent slant. This chair achieves the perfect marriage between opulence with modernist. Imagine this piece with marble in your space as well- it would look incredible! The activity of the inner fabric as it cascades down the front of the chair creates movement and flow that the Moroso chairs in a solid colour simply don’t have.
I estimate that this particular Moroso “Take A Line For A Walk” chair would retail for about AU $11,000 NEW from SPACE Furniture if they were able to make this particular one again. The inner fabric would probably be out of production because this particular chair is about 10 years old; not that there’s any indication of that when you look at it. (The condition of this chair is immaculate- it presents basically as new.) I’ve not come across another Moroso “Take A Line For A Walk” chair like this one ever- it was not a “standard release”. This brings me to the comment I made about this chair in my last video on Instagram ( go to https://www.instagram.com/invisedge/ to watch the video.) You will get to see more of this chair in the flesh if you watch this video too. I said in my video and I quote here “you will not see something like this ever again”. This prompted a very nasty exchange from someone in the business (you could probably say iNVISeDGE is a competitor to this guy’s business, but we should all be working together and helping each other- not trying to tear the next person down). I conceded with this guy very quickly that my words were “not perfect” and I cited the reason for this as being a LIVE video that was not scripted. The intention of the video was to showcase my gut-instinct on the pieces shown- to get a glimpse of my initial reaction to pieces as soon as I come across them (with not too much over-thinking). The more I have pondered my words, the more I think they are more “perfect” than not. “You will not see something like this ever again.” That particular chair, in those fabrics, after we sell it in iNVISeDGE 99.9999% of people out there will not see a Moroso chair like it ever again. That is fact. That is not a bullshit statement as this guy said to me. I was thumping my hands on the chair next to me when I made that statement- I was NOT talking about about the Moroso “Take A Line For A Walk” design in general. And to say, “you don’t want to become a gay D…..”. Completely unnecessary, callous and just intended to ruffle my feathers (regardless of how you want to defend yourself).
The “Take A Line For a Walk” was designed by Alfredo Haberli for Moroso in 2002. A triumph in design and an immediate sensation, this chair has been sold the world over, but at approx AU$10,000 a pop these have not been sold in large quantities. The investment appeal of this chair here is obvious. I doubt that Moroso could even make this chair for our OFFERS OVER price of AU $3,300. You want something that will at least hold its value whilst you get to use and enjoy it your home? I can’t see any reason why that wouldn’t happen with this chair. You want something that is at least as good as something that’s new, WITHOUT A LEAD TIME OF ABOUT HALF A YEAR, this might be exactly what you’ve been searching for.
The “Take A Line For A Walk” chair features a wraparound shell, which conforms and protects- this chair becomes a place to relax, rest your head- a place to cocoon yourself from the outside world. Paul Klee’s quote “Drawing is taking a line for a walk,” came to life with the launch of this design. To say that this chair is comfortable is a understatement- the sophistication of the comfort here needs to be experienced to be believed.
This is a rare opportunity to own a design classic for a fraction of its real value. The beauty of investing in designer originals is knowing they will hold their value over time (or increase in value along with inflation- provided that you look after your items), plus you can be assured of the quality and durability you’re getting. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
