But here you’re getting the REAL THING- the BEST in design and craftsmanship that has endured for almost ONE CENTURY. Can you believe it? The Barcelona chair design is coming up to 100 years old in less than 6 years!

These chairs tick every box- stylish looks, DURABILITY, quality construction, great comfort and very strong investment appeal. These are soooo rare. I’ve been in this business for 21 years and have never come across originals of these before- I doubt you’ll come across another set like this again. Particularly at this price- what an investment!
The Barcelona chair was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929, for the German Pavilion at the International Expo hosted by the city of Barcelona in Spain. “The frame was initially designed to be bolted together but was redesigned in 1950 using stainless steel, which allowed the frame to be formed from a seamless piece of metal, giving it a smoother appearance. Bovine leather replaced the ivory-coloured pigskin which was used for the original pieces.
Although many architects and furniture designers of the Bauhaus era were intent on providing well-designed homes and impeccably manufactured furnishings for the ‘common man’, the Barcelona chair was an exception. It was designed for Spanish Royalty to oversee the opening ceremonies of the exhibition and was described by Time magazine as inhabiting “his sumptuous German pavilion.”[4] The form is thought to be extrapolated from Roman folding chairs known as the Curule chair- upholstered stools used by Roman aristocracy.
