Background Info and Provenance

A HAND-MADE decanter made by prominent Australian glass artist, Tricia Allen- this piece is engraved to the base. This is probably the largest piece of Tricia Allen art glass I’ve come across. Pieces of this size are not easy to execute by hand- it’s obvious this one has been crafted by an expert in the field. I love the expressive flow of the piece- the ribs create dynamic movement. The vibrant translucence of the blue glass couples beautifully with the opaque milky green. Not many decanters in this size have ever been made in Australia. As shown in our group photo, it works in very well with Empoli genie bottles from the 1960’s. In a collection of hand-crafted decanters in different colours and sizes this would be a show-stopper! I doubt you’ll see anything like it again.
Tricia Allen graduated from her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 before establishing herself as one of Australia’s most sought-after glass artists. A major influence in Tricia’s glass practice and style has been Nick Mount, one of Australia’s leading glassblowers. In early 2006, Tricia was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and was unable to continue her work. Tricia Allen left us with a 23-year history of stunning work, most of which emanated from her Nungurner production studio in the Lakes Entrance region, Victoria. In a heart-warming continuation of her story, the Tricia Allen Gallery at Nungurner reopened after being closed for six years, with husband Norm making beautiful glass works under the banner TALLON – Tricia Allen Legacy Lives On.
There is a large band of collectors who only collect prominent Australian art-glass pieces. Hesitate and I’m sure one of these enthusiasts will beat you to this rare example! It’s obvious this is a hand-worked piece that has come from the hands and heart of a person (and not a machine).
Tricia Allen pieces are highly-prized. (There have been long-running exhibitions of Tricia Allen’s work at various galleries and museums over the years.) Major pieces from Tricia Allen rarely hit the market. This is certainly one to be passed from one generation to the next. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce landfill.

This Tricia Allen piece was created by hand (probably in the early-2000's) and presents extremely well for its age. It has NO chips, NO cracks, NO repairs, NO scratches. It has been extremely well looked after. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our small charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
