Description
This set of 6 Johannes Andersen Juliane chairs are being sold from a regular iNVISeDGE seller in Prahran, MELBOURNE but can be transported AUSTRALIA-WIDE for a reasonable fee- about $240 to get all 6 chairs to SYDNEY. I personally worked with these chairs and photographed them too.
This suite has a Rosewood finish, which was done at the time of manufacture back in the 1970’s- for a lighter look the original finish could be stripped off, sanded and refinished in Danish oil but they present EXTREMELY WELL as they are. The refined elegance on offer here is breath taking- the darker colour only accentuates the elegance.

The longer I worked with these chairs, the more passionate I felt about them. I quickly realised they sit at or near the pinnacle as far as DANISH dining chairs go and in fact any dining chair we’ve ever had in iNVISeDGE over the last 22 years. They’re some of the most sophisticated chairs you’ll ever see. This SET OF SIX (6) Juliane chairs by Johannes Andersen are the epitome of refined cultured design. I normally cringe when I read this about chairs but I have to say it- they are incredibly sensual pieces. The workmanship here is superb and you can’t help staring at the quiet grace. Johannes Andersen quickly became one of the most notable furniture makers of the late-1950’s, selling his designs to Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Prices for sets of 6 of these on 1stdibs average AU $9,000 for SIX. My price here in iNVISeDGE is a mere fraction of this. These are REALLY hard to find- this is the first set of Johannes Andersen Juliane chairs that has come our way for 10 YEARS! Plus they sit up at the pinnacle as far as dining chairs go- miss these and you could be waiting another 10 years.
Juliane chairs make a fantastic investment. Being vintage and having stood the test of time, the workmanship and quality are assured. With normal use they will last for centuries to come. This is why they’re an investment and not a purchase. And to top it off they are EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE- various Danish designed chairs are not. These are probably the most comfortable chair with the Danish aesthetic I’ve ever sat in. The curve in the back is perfect and they support your back in exactly the right spot. You just melt into these chairs.
All the joints are solid and strong with absolutely NO movement. This is because the joint areas are incredibly well supported (see the photo of the underside). The timber backs are another great aspect of the design- this is very practical as these backs are hard to damage and easy to keep clean (great for a family). Another sign of quality is the curved plywood seat area which is a LOT more durable than webbing. Webbing usually sags and breaks over time- these plywood seats should last forever with normal use- they’re already about 50 years old and still in amazing condition.
The Juliane chair designed by Johannes Andersen for Uldum Mobelfabrik has increased in value SIGNIFICANTLY over the last 10 years since we had our last set. Whilst many modern chairs end up as landfill within years, this vintage suite is being passed onto yet another household and a new generation. Good design and honest workmanship supersedes trends and is timeless. If you look after these chairs there’s no reason why they won’t reward you in many ways for many years to come. This includes financially- because these chairs have increased significantly in value over the years, there’s no reason for this trend not to continue. There are very few better ways of investing in your home and reduce landfill.
