$1,295.00

This chair sold within days of being listed for $1295 through iNVISeDGE back in 2014. I’m finding it harder to get Pacific Green stock these days and values are on their way up. Virtually every piece of furniture I’ve sold in the last 17 years is worth more or the same as when I sold it. This chair is no exception. Today in 2019 I’d price the same 2nd-hand chair at around $1495.

This chair sold within days of being listed in iNVISeDGE for $1295 back in 2014. I’m finding it harder and harder to get 2nd-hand Pacific Green stock these days and values for Pacific Green are on their way up. Virtually every piece of furniture I’ve sold in the last 17 years (Pacific Green or otherwise) is worth more or the same as when I sold it. This chair is no exception. I’d stock the exact same USED chair at about $1595 these days (2018).

An exceptional lounge chair HAND-CRAFTED by highly-awarded company, Pacific Green in top-quality LEATHER. Pacific Green is at the pinnacle in my eyes- they offer it all and have their own original style that others wouldn’t even try to copy. Pacific Green designs are all distinctly their own. I’ve stocked two Pacific Green items before this one and both drew immediate interest from international buyers in the UK, USA and Canada. One of these parties communicated with me for over a month trying to make arrangements for shipping. (Note for International Buyers- shipping of this chair will cost in the vicinity of AU$1000 (approx. US$820) and will take at least 3 months.)

When I came across my first Pacific Green design about 6 months ago I immediately researched the Pacific Green brand more. I decided within two minutes I wanted to stock Pacific Green.

Pacific Green is not as obscure as I first imagined. The business originated from the Post & Rail brand which started in Sydney in the 1970’s. I’ve stocked Post & Rail furniture before and would stock the right designs again (the quality of P & R is exceptional). Post & Rail grew into an international brand and in the late 1980’s they did the unthinkable. With a highly successful brand they changed tack completely. With the world’s new concern with deforestation and ecological threats, Post & Rail closed and re-branded as Pacific Green. Pacific Green searched the world for a sustainable quality timber for their future furniture production- the solution? Coconut wood. In the South Pacific, they found vast abandoned plantations of coconut palm trees, which were commercially planted in the early-1900s but had reached the end of productive fruiting. The best part? Coconut wood is more resilient than virtually any timber. It thrives in areas battered by tropical cyclones.

After I’d found out that I not only did I want the suite I’d found, I wanted to start stocking new Pacific Green furniture in iNVISeDGE (which would be a first for us because we only sell used furniture). But there’s more. Pacific Green set a benchmark for modern, sustainable business in the Pacific. In the late 1980’s land was leased, not bought, to respect indigenous ownership. Their factory was built in consultation with the surrounding villages and employed only local people. Business and skills training programmes were established. The majority of the company is owned by Fijians- the drive of the business is still Australian, the designing arm happens here in Australia.

Pacific Green today has grown from that little furniture-making firm that started in the Rocks, Sydney back in 1973 (as Post & Rail). I am inspired and heartened that they changed tack back in the late 80’s when ecological threats were barely thought of.

Okay, I must talk about the actual chair on offer here. (Sorry for such a long-winded affair but the Pacific Green story needs to be told.) The thing is the design sells itself. You can see from the photos this chair is comfortable. You can see this is a soft luxurious chair with a good level of support as well. You can also see that there’s plenty of room to find your own comfortable position. And you can see that the leather is of the highest quality.

You can also see the durability of the construction just from the photos- the meticulous eye for detail. It’s obvious here this chair was not slapped together any-old-how. Pacific Green is not a flash in the pan- they’ve been around over 40 years- they earned their reputation decades ago for furniture craftsmanship of the highest quality. Their furniture is crafted BY HAND- a dying art but one that needs to be nurtured.

Honestly I can write nothing critical about this chair or Pacific Green- if I wasn’t busy with iNVISeDGE I’d ask them for a job. This chair epitomises all there is to be excited about Pacific Green.

I love scouting to find exciting furniture. Brands like Pacific Green are the reason I do this job. They ignite inspiration- they tick every box and prove that businesses can be successful, ecologically responsible and socially aware. This chair has been built to last and will continue to tell stories well after you and I are gone- just like Post & Rail furniture has already done. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

As the photos show, this chair is in amazing condition. It wasn’t like this when it came in- it had been well used and I’d say for about 10 years. It needed a good clean up but quality items will clean up and basically look like new again. This item shows no damage at all despite heavy use previously. I even found a child’s doll when I took off the seat cushion. I left it there as it’s part of the history of this piece. The timber is solid- virtually nothing could ever happen to this chair- just sand back the top pieces if ever needed and oil the timber slats every now and then. The leather is of the highest quality. Quality leather like this will stand up to about 50 years of constant use so this leather should have another 40 or so years left in it. The frame holding it together is metal so it can’t break. All up this is a well-designed chair that has been built to last and presents in brilliant condition- pretty much showroom condition. This chair measures 105cm across with a depth of about 96cm. The total height of the chair is 84cm. The seat height is 43.5cm. The depth of the seat is 55cm. This a casual “book-reading or TV-watching chair you can put your feet up and curl up on. You can also put a cushion behind your back for normal sitting.)
