Provenance and Background Info

(Written in 2014. These were purchased by an interior designer for $1495 the PAIR in 2014. These were CUSTOM-MADE in Australia in the style of the Kalos chair by B & B Italia. I’ve seen none others since (now 2019).)

A pair of feature chairs in the style of the Kalos chair by world-renowned B & B Italia – Maxalto. These are not authentic B & B Italia chairs but are actually rarer. I purchased these chairs from a high-profile interior designer who had the chairs CUSTOM-MADE by an upholstery firm close to Sydney who makes furniture to order (mainly sofas). When the interior designer requested this design they put all their skills to the test. These are a HIGH-QUALITY and skillful construction of this classic B & B Italia design.

The B & B originals retail for $6145 each from SPACE furniture. ($12 290 for a pair.) No need to pay that here and no need to wait the usual lead time either (usually 8-weeks or more).

The chairs on offer here boast a solid hardwood frame that’s been blocked and dowelled at each corner for strength and durability so you’re not only buying a stunning design but quality as well. The comfort is also sensational. The fabric covering is micro-suede. The previous owner has kids so this was an obvious choice for her. Micro-suede is easy to keep clean– simply wipe off spills ect with a hot soapy cloth. Re-upholstery would need to be done by a master upholsterer for these– it’s not an easy job and would cost maybe $800 per chair.

The thing I like most about these chairs is that they tick every box– there’s no crosses I can find. Even the investment box gets the tick. If you ever need to sell these chairs in the future, approach me. I can’t see any reason why I wouldn’t stock them for this price again. These are rare chairs in a highly sought-after design– you won’t find any like this again.

Before I finish I have to add that this design is one of the most visually pleasing you’ll see. It’s restrained but certainly noticed. The curves, that look like a child’s slippery-slide, are soothing and calming. These chairs have stature like a gentleman’s chair but with peaceful flowing lines. It’s a most intriguing contrast. The comfort of these chairs is also great. They are a great sitting chair- perfect for watching TV, reading or socializing. The angles are spot-on and you feel well supported in them. They are certainly not the type of chair you keep on sinking in and pray to God you’ll be able to fight your way out when it comes time stand up!

Why buy mass-produced furniture with highly questionable construction qualities? These chairs were custom-made in Sydney and have stood the test of time with regards to both workmanship and design. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and to reduce landfill.
