Background Info and Provenance
A SET OF 3 Orca Whale Perspex sculptures by famous Brazilian inventor and artist, Abraham Palatnik. This listing consists of ALL 3 sculptures- one LARGE, one MEDIUM and one SMALL-MEDIUM Orca Whale sculpture. All three of these are considered a good size when compared with the majority of Palatnik sculptures out there. Most are around 10cm in size or less. The largest whale in this group is 25cm in height. I’ve never come across a set of 3 Palatnik creatures before so this is a rare investment opportunity. Considered one of the most majestic and intelligent animals in the world many of us are fascinated by whales- this group would be a striking and rare investment particularly for any home or business near the ocean.
Palatnik invented this concept in the 1960’s and has since created a swarm of celebrated designs. Known as kinechromatic art, this set of 3 whales was created by infusing two pieces of acrylic together. On one the patterning of the piece was screen-printed BY HAND and the other was infused on top; therefore the decoration is contained within the Perspex (as opposed to being painted on the surface). This technique helps make Palatnik’s pieces highly collectable as the decoration can’t be damaged- with normal handling, the piece will look as it does today for decades (probably centuries) to come.
Palatnik’s figures became highly collectable after high profile interior designers in America (such as Jonathan Adler) started showcasing his sculptures in various interiors. These pieces are all signed Pal which strengthens the investment appeal. In Australia these figures have never been retailed and are basically impossible to find. I’ve seen a handful of Palatnik sculptures in the flesh in 15+ years of being in this business.
After most modern home décor has become landfill this vintage set will still be telling stories, igniting the imagination and inspiring generations to come. When we value and recycle vintage design we’re making one of the best possible financial investments in our homes plus we’re also reducing our carbon footprint. (Except for electronics, some linen and some clothes (eg. underwear!) NOTHING in my home was purchased new.)
This SET OF 3 vintage pieces are ALL in excellent condition for their age with no noticeable flaws to report at all. There are NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs. There may be some very minor signs of use but certainly nothing that’s noticed or warrants a mention. They all display brilliantly for sculptures that are about 50 years old. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PICK-UP . . . from 30 or 40 minutes North of BRISBANE city is accepted but postage is preferred as my home is hard to find. Because of this I will nominate a friend or family member for you to collect the item from if you need collection. Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
