Provenance and Background Info

(This set of 6 dining chairs sold for $1350 for all 6 through iNVISeDGE back in 2007. These days in 2018 I’d price the same set of chairs at around $1800.) In 2020 after more time in this business $1800 is way under-valued for this design. They’re very hard to get and they have design prestige. In 2020 I’d price 6 of these chairs at around $2400.

The description below was written in 2007. I’d write it a lot differently these days but have kept it as it was back then (because I don’t have any others for sale). These chairs are rare and from a highly-esteemed designer. I remember that the comfort was okay but not great which is why I’m having trouble assigning a value to this design.

Written in 2007. This is possibly the most stunning dining suite we’ve had for some time. This set of six dining chairs has a classic 1950’s design that attracts attention. Designed by Hungarian-born architect, George Korody in the late 1940’s, this suite has very solid investment appeal. Korody was highly influential in furniture design circles in Australia in the 1950’s. He established Artes Studios which later evolved to become SPACE Furniture which is still in operation today. Korody’s designs are not often seen but are well worth watching because of his strong contribution to Australian design. These mid-century chairs will always have strong appeal- new timber dining chairs can fetch at least this but these have history and proven construction qualities. Obviously, they look sensational but are also very durable- just look at them after 50+ years of use! The frames are solid Coachwood and the backs are also solid timber, adding to the durability. I think their biggest draw-card is the uniqueness of the design- I have never seen this design in person before- love those scissor legs!
