Description Written in 2011

A stunning DANISH chair produced by FARSTRUP of Denmark in TOP-QUALITY full-grain leather. This is an authentic DANISH chair with a fabric tag to vouch for its provenance. This design originated in the 1970’s and was in production for some years. The Norwegian styling of the chair is possibly the most sought-after furniture style of that era. Lean and fluid in profile, this chair has a designer edge but would suit a myriad of interiors- I can even see it in front of a traditional fireplace. This piece came off a recent shipment from Denmark- the design is very rarely seen in Australia. (In fact these chairs are rarely seen anywhere in the world- a thorough Google search a few days ago turned up nothing.) I’ve had one other pair in the past (in over 10 years of trading)- I sold them for about $1400 the pair back in 2006. This piece has been priced to give Melbourne and Sydney customers reason to bid.

This chair is supremely comfortable and the lean profile reminds me of the legendary PK22 chairs by Danish designer Poal Kjaerholmhaver (valued at over $3000 EACH). Farstrup is still in business to this day in Denmark continuing their reputation for quality and superior comfort but this chair is not currently in production. This is an investment piece that will hold or increase in value over the years. Aside from the financial investment, this chair will provide years of enjoyment and comfort because of its high-quality construction. When the others are no longer fashionable or have ended up as landfill because they are broken or look terrible because of poor construction, this vintage piece will still be doing what it has been designed to do. There’s no better way to invest in your home and in the environment.

Add-on Bit Written in 2018 (7 years later)

With a bit more experience in this business I’ve since realised that these are in-line with the Westnofa Siesta chair in value. I actually think they’re a tad better in construction quality than the Siesta chair. Therefore the selling price of $595 back in 2011 was a great investment for this buyer. Farstrup chairs should only continue to increase in value along with inflation. The FULL-GRAIN leather upholstery alone (which lasts the long-haul) gives it a lot of value. Certainly a very strong investment even around $800 (a matching pair would be worth more per chair as well).
