Description
These chairs sold for $1400 THE PAIR back in 2005. Today in 2019 I’d price them at significantly more.
Provenance and Background Info
This description was written back in 2005. It doesn’t say a lot but I’ve pasted it as it was written back then as the chairs have sold.
A stunning PAIR of 1950s easy chairs with matching ottoman with a striking shape and cool style. These were made by PARKER-KNOLL of High Wycombe, England in the late 1950’s. These chairs boast superior construction qualities and a design you’ll love. PAIRS of armchairs teamed with a sofa is popular in interior design at the moment but this PAIR of 50’s easy chairs have several advantages over the many single-seaters on the market at the moment including-
- solid workmanship and superior construction qualities that have already been proven for over 40 years
- a brilliant 1950’s design that’s funky and eye-catching
- investment appeal- these Parker Knoll chairs will at least hold their value with time due their unique and timeless design
- the frame is solid Coachwood- a timber highly prized for its durability and beauty
- the wool is black which not only offers a striking contrast to the blonde timber frame but also makes the chairs look better for longer
- the matching ottoman is incredibly rare to find for vintage furniture
- finally they’re in a comfortable shape that makes them great to laze in.
The mix of curves and sharp angles in this pair are brilliant, the brilliant comfort is an added bonus that makes this PAIR of vintage Parker Knoll chairs a very special find. Why pay $700+ each for single-seaters that lose their value by half the minute you walk them out of the store?
I wrote in 2005 that they would at least hold their value with time – 100% true. I wouldn’t sell this pair for $1400 these days- they’d quickly sell for a decent bit more today (in 2019).
