Background Information & Provenance
(Written in 2024)
To say this matching set of 10 vintage chairs is rare is an understatement! In over 22 years of trading I have never had a matching set of 10 vintage dining chairs. These chairs were made by Parker Furniture (Sydney, Australia) in 1980. The design is a distinct 1970’s Parker design- this particular set was made in 1980 and were possibly some of the last in this design ever done. When teamed with the pictured oval Parker table, this is one of the most awe-inspiring dining suites iNVISeDGE has ever had. A dining suite with 10 matching vintage chairs (in amazing original condition) is a sight not often seen. I also love the woollen upholstery. The colour is neutral and simple which allows the texture of the fabric to be noticed. The shape too is simple but also stylish- this suite is all class. And the condition? These chairs are 44 years old- I doubt you’ll see a set of 10 in this type of condition ever again.
This is where the wool upholstery really comes into its own. Wool usually repels marks and stains and this is a really thick weave. This upholstery is holding up very well to use and looks like it’s set to last another 44 years with no problems (providing they’re used with some sense). I like that they have a subtle vintage look but overall are neutral, simple and stylish. The structure of all chairs is also amazing- every chair is as solid as a rock after all these years.
Apart from the looks, the design comes up trumps for comfort as well. Notice the curve in the back. This cradles you perfectly. The padded seats add to the comfort- the backs are also tall for a dining chair which provides perfect support. These are some of the most comfortable dining chairs Parker ever did.
Sets of 10 matching dining chairs are really hard to get. This Parker suite is a very solid investment- I doubt they could be made for even double this price. These are well crafted chairs that have been built to last and already have! They also have a timeless look that’s not subject to trends. After the majority of modern dining chairs end up as landfill, this vintage Parker dining suite will be passed on to a new custodian and then another generation. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and the future of our environment.
