This lamp is priced at AU $319. NOTE- our prices are in AUSTRALIAN dollars which is significantly less in American dollars. (Currently around US $227). This piece is for sale from our NORTH BRISBANE depot in Morayfield but can be posted WORLDWIDE at cost price plus $3 for packing and storing clean used packing materials. We regularly visit an electrical store and take away their packing materials before it ends up as landfill!
Background Info and Provenance
LOVE THIS! I’d have this in my own place in a second. So cool! I think this is an Australian production- the designer has completely “nailed” it. The shape is perfect in my eyes. The colour- perfect. Styling- perfect. Practicality- perfect.
Sleek and stylish with vintage character to boot, these anodised lamps from the 1950’s were a design sensation at the time and these days are very highly sought-after. The space-age shape is distinctly of the era (inspired by man’s space travels at the time) but what I love so much about this one is the sleek elegant quality. Most in this style are a bit over-the-top and scream for all the attention- this one gets the attention but the refined elegant shape pares it back allowing it to work in any space. I can even see this in a Danish Modern space because of the restrained elegance. And I love this colour- it complements the shape perfectly! There’s a slight retro “pop” but still minimalist and restrained which means the shape takes focus; not the colour.
You could search for months and not find a better vintage desk lamp design that’s available for sale. And this one is also in great condition for it’s age- not perfect- very few annodised pieces are- but it presents very well. (These annodised pieces are all now nearing 70 years old.)
Looks are not the only plus. The investment appeal is assured- I’ve seen similar designs that I don’t think are half as nice priced in the thousands (see the screenshots provided). In my opinion there’s no chance this piece will lose any value as you get to use it and enjoy having it in your home.
Add practicality to the list of advantages of investing in this one. The metal hat directs the light down (on your workspace). Plus the top can tilt in any way you want. This makes the piece the perfect bedside lamp as well. You can move the top to direct the light anywhere you want so you can keep on reading while your partner snores beside you!
This piece has not only evaded landfill for over 60 years but has become more sought-after with each passing year (the value of these has constantly increased over the last decade and I see no reason why this won’t continue). It’s a win- win for everybody. There’s no better way to support local industry, reduce your carbon footprint and INVEST in your home. You’re not buying here- you’re simply “looking after” this piece for the next generation to enjoy.

This lamp is in excellent condition overall- it’s in fully original condition and has been well looked after. The anodised finish is fully original. Many pieces like this have had to be painted later. As soon as you get a deep scratch that's quite long through the anodised finish, the piece is spoiled- the anodised finish needs to be stripped off and the metal needs to be painted. This spoils the piece- the anodised finish contributes the look- the sleek refined style and the vintage character is compromised- painted ones are just not the same! Obviously in a structural sense the lamp is perfect. The surface condition is NOT perfect but excellent for a piece of this age. (Use the magnifying glass and inspect the surface closely.) There's no damage that warrants a specific mention. For an anodised piece of this age it looks great. The lamp is best used with a 25-watt bulb (it's a normal bayonet light bulb so easy to get). The lamp has an Australian power plug and looks like it always has which leads me to think the piece was Made in Australia (most likely late-1950's). As shown in the photo it's in perfect working order (the switch also works perfectly) but with all vintage electrics I need to state it is your responsibility to have it professionally checked prior to use. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PICK-UP . . . from 30 or 40 minutes North of BRISBANE city is accepted but postage is preferred as my home is hard to find. Because of this I will nominate a friend or family member for you to collect the item from if you need collection. Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
