Provenance and Background Info

This description was written in 2023.

A set of 4 original Model 31 Kai Kristiansen Dining Chairs. Designed by Kai Kristiansen for Schou Andersen Møbelfabrik, Denmark in the 1960’s. These vintage Danish dining chairs have been recently hand-sanded and coated in Danish oil. This is one of the most iconic dining chair designs from the 1960’s era. Certainly much nicer than Parker and FLER dining chair offerings of the same era. This Danish design by Kai Kristiansen is a very comfortable chair too which further enhances the appeal. This is one of Kristiansen’s most popular designs, so it would be possible to extend your suite to 8 chairs. Sets of 4 do come up here in Australia- they are not common but because they’re one of Kai Kristiansen’s most celebrated designs, dealers who import Danish vintage furniture into Australia are always striving to get them.

The model 31 chair by Kai Kristiansen is a very solid investment. I’ve seen values for these increase over the time I’ve been in this business. They regularly sell overseas for around AU $1,000 per chair and often more. Anything under $750 a chair for these is a no-brainer investment. The construction quality is exceptional- these chairs were built to last and do. I’ve never seen anything structurally wrong with this design over the years.

Vintage chairs like this from the 1960’s with the Danish design aesthetic often can sell for AU $4,000 for sets of 4- written 2023. And values for vintage chairs in iconic designs such as this CONSTANTLY go up- I’ve seen this first hand over the last 22 years. Many modern dining chairs end up at as landfill within years but when sets of vintage chairs look like this after 60 years of use, buyers have full confidence of the quality they’re investing in before they shell out even a cent. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
