Description
SORRY SOLD! The vendor was COMPLETELY UNCONSCIOUS! She’s BANNED from selling in iNVISeDGE again!
The listed price is PER STOOL if you buy all 5. Sets of 4 or 5 vintage stools are near impossible to find so we’re keen to keep this set together. We would consider selling either a pair or 3- get in touch with us if you’re interested in less than 5 stools. If you’re interested in all 5, don’t delay in registering your interest as we will consider breaking this suite up.
LOCATION- Northcote, MELBOURNE but these can be freighted Australia-wide by a specialist furniture carrier. Approx. $340 to get all 5 of these stools to Sydney. Approx. $100 to most areas of Melbourne.
Background Info and Provenance
An amazing set of 5 barstools / bar stools made around 1958 by Australian manufacturer, Framac. This 1950’s production was based on work being done by Clement Meadmore at the same time and in fact, these stools are usually misattributed to Meadmore. Similar stools by Meadmore would fetch around $1,000 per stool- the construction quality of these are at least as good as Meadmore pieces, if not better. These stools are also nearing 70 years old and have a rare style that’s timeless. My vendor purchased them second-hand back in 1985- she’s had them nearly 40 years and they’ve happily resided in different homes over that time. She’s only parting with them now because she needs only two bar stools now and 3 have been sitting around for years unused. This proves the longevity of both the construction AND design. From a design perspective these are about as TIMELESS as you’ll ever find- cutting edge 70 years ago and today similar looking stools are still being made. I strongly doubt they’ll ever go out of style.
The construction quality of the new ones doesn’t cut it- cheap alloy metals are being used that are lightweight and flimsy. Many will break or corrode all the way through within a decade and be ready for landfill. This set on the other hand are nearing 70 years old and were made back in the day when they didn’t cut corners. Evidence of this is shown in the cross-piece along the front near the floor where your feet rest. This section of the metal has been coated in a thick black plastic that protects this high-use section from wear- not that it needs it. This metal is top-quality- when exposed to the elements it discolours only. It does not corrode at all. This means that it’s highly likely these stools will last forever. And just look at the original vinyl seat pads! They’re about 70 years old but still in amazing condition. This upholstery is hardy and as tough as nails!
You want a smart INVESTMENT that will hold it’s value as you get to use and enjoy them in your home? Look no further. If you use these with any sense, they will look like this forever. The top sections were never painted back in the day. The metal stays shiny with a silver look- there’s minor discolouration where wire sections meet but this rubs off easily with your fingernail. Some of this exposed metal has light green discolouration and wears the same as metal used in furniture during the art deco era. This metal does not have a coating- it is not chrome-finished- chrome will flake off over decades, this will not. It will stay as it is for decades to come.
The other thing these Framac stools have going for them is COMFORT. The backs flex slightly when you sit down and tend to meld to the shape of your back. They also have a good height for comfort. Most bar stools with backs are uncomfortable to sit in- these are not and the original seat pads further aid the comfort here.
Why buy a set of modern stools that will lose value by about HALF the second you walk them out of the shop? Here, you are offered stools built IN AUSTRALIA about 65 years ago that should only hold their value but more likely will increase in value in the future. Plus, by supporting iNVISeDGE, you’re supporting a business that’s been meeting the challenge of running a small business in Australia for over 23 years. It’s a win for everybody. I can’t think of any better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill. (EVERY SINGLE item in my home is vintage or was purchased second-hand- except for a couple of my electrical appliances- and every single item has increased in value whilst I’ve enjoyed using it in my home. Again, excluding some electrical appliances.)
