Delivery Australia-wide by a SPECIALIST FURNITURE is available. Because they stack it would be ABOUT $240 to get them to Melbourne. Background Info and Provenance
In my opinion this is THE best outdoor chair design ever made for under-covered outdoor areas (it’s on par with the Casala chairs with armrests). This design is just stunning! In some ways these are better than the other Casala design because they are not as wide which means they’ll work in a smaller space plus these are WAY harder to find compared to the other Casalas. The other Casalas are certainly around (though in great original condition they are also getting very hard to get). This design is very elusive- in fact this is the first Casala chair in this design I’ve stocked since 2005 (!) This design looks incredible from EVERY angle. Stylish, sinewy but with a dash of “pop-art” added to the mix- these are more than just beautiful!
This design take cues from the famous Panton chair but in my eyes it takes that design to a new level- these are a lot more refined and stylish in my opinion (plus they’re MUCH harder to get compared to Panton chairs). The big thing these have going for them is strong investment appeal. This set was MADE IN AUSTRALIA UNDER LICENSE back in January 1975- the date stamp is embossed into the plastic on the underside of the floor support piece.
It is very hard to find any Casala chairs in incredible ORIGINAL condition! After over 5o years of use, these look like they are only a few years old- how amazing is that? These chairs truly have stood the test of time. And put quite simply, they tick EVERY box. This set for sale under consignment from a private seller in SOUTH AUSTRALIA- these vendors purchased these chairs new in 1979. In 1992 they went caravanning around Australia (which they continued doing for 7 years!). They couldn’t bring themselves to part with their prized chairs so this set went into storage back in 1992- they have NOT been used since and they have certainly NEVER been used in any outdoor area. This means this set is in as good condition as you can expect for chairs of this nature.
One thing I really love about this design is they stack. This means you can have 4 or 6 permanently set up in your outdoor area and have an extra stack somewhere if you want to extend your outdoor suite for alfresco dinner parties at home (hopefully we will all get to do this again soon after COVID). The durability is what gets these vintage Casalas the biggest tick of approval though. These chairs are nearing 50 YEARS old- just look at them! No guessing the quality on offer. Many Casala chairs are very weathered after all these years (most can only be restored by taking them to a smash repairer to get professionally two-packed with paint which is very expensive). These need no restoration, they’re in full original condition and look amazing!
The Casala chair (also known as the Casalino) is a design classic. Stylish, stunning BUT incredibly TIMELESS- the Casala will never go out style. Designed in the mid-1970’s in Germany by Alexander Begge, the Casalino looks cutting edge even by today’s standards- imagine the sensation these caused back in the 1970’s. This was THE outdoor chair to have. You could find Casalino chairs scattered around sparkling, aquamarine pools in Hollywood, in the most exclusive residences in the Greek islands, even the hippest of Sydney hotels back in the day. Picture the tanned starlets in the 1970’s lounging in this iconic chair between dips in the pool. To top it off this design is super-comfortable too- the angles are spot-on (you just seem to melt into these and the ORIGINAL seat pads from the 1970’s adds to the comfort and appeal of this particular set). This design is not a big and cumbersome chair at all. Casalas are equally glam inside or out. (I had a customer- way back in 2004- who purchased a set of Casala chairs from iNVISeDGE to use in a studio apartment in Sydney- he moved his chairs between his inside area and his small covered balcony).
These chairs have not only avoided landfill, they’ve INCREASED in price since the 1970’s (and significantly). After modern “designer” chairs (and cheap replicas) have broken and ended up as landfill, this set of vintage ORIGINALS will be passed onto a new generation telling more stories as they go. Investing in quality vintage design (and new items built to last) is our only way out of this mess. There’s NO better way to invest in your home … financially, environmentally and from a social perspective. By supporting iNVISeDGE you’re also giving meaningful employment to local people. It’s a win – win – win!
