Provenance and Background Info

Plastic designer chairs by legendary American designers Ray and Charles Eames. These are AUTHENTIC Eames originals by Vitra, Germany- fully marked. This particular set was made in 2005 and sold in 2006. The COMFORT of this enduring design is legendary- these chairs are amazing to settle into- great support and a nice rounded form that seems to hug you.

These are high-quality originals made from polypropylene. Charles and Ray Eames created their first successful single-shell form way back in 1950 with their Moulded Fibreglass chairs. However when the environmental risks of using fibreglass became realised the decision was made to discontinue the fibreglass production in the late-1980’s until a more suitable material could be found. In 2001 Herman Miller re-introduced the Moulded Fibreglass chairs in 100% recyclable polypropylene. The added benefit of polypropylene is that these chairs are intensely durable- the chances of these breaking is virtually zero.

I can’t find retail values online at the moment- the Vitra originals would have to be worth at least AU$500 EACH. The Eames chairs made by Vitra with the wooden dowels are retailing for at least AU $1000 EACH. At our price, these high-quality designer chairs are a no-brainer investment.

If a chair designed in the 1950’s is still being made today and blends in any furniture shop, the ingeniousness of this timeless design is obvious. And if chairs made in 2005 can look like this after 16 years of use, the durability is just as obvious. No guessing how well these chairs will hold up to use- the proof is in the condition of these chairs. There are very few better ways to reduce landfill and protect our environment for future generations.

2205 and 2208

These chairs have some age to them- they are now 17 years old but present extremely well overall. The chrome bases are all in amazing condition. The polypropylene shells also present extremely well overall. There are NO cracks, NO breaks, NO weakness, NO damage, NO weathering, NO deep scratches at all. The chairs have scuff marks from stacking them up over a period of 16 years. This is not really noticed until you start scrutinising them closer- set-up as a full suite it's not noticed. These scuff marks are only noticed when the light reflects off the chairs at certain angles- when they are set up around a table and pushed in, this would never be noticed and even when people are pulling them out to use them, I doubt it would ever be noticed. I've included heaps of photos to show you what to expect. As you can see, from most angles the scuffs are not noticed- the light has to reflect off these areas in a certain way to be seen. There are NO structural issues- they are all solid and strong. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements.
