A set of 6 PONGRASS swivel dining chairs designed and produced in the 1960’s. These are so cool- love them! This suite is certainly something I’d have in my own home (in the right type of space). The green is perfect- it gives these an authentic retro slant but this colour is not completely over-the-top. It’s earthy and neutral as well. If you have greenery out your windows, this suite will help bring the outdoors into your space. If you’re in a bland modern apartment, it will help add some personality and character to your home- add in a few plants and you’ll have a space that’s fun but also refined and sophisticated.
The thing I love most about this suite is its practicality- these chairs are really comfortable and the table with it’s oval top is stylish but also easy to clean and look after- a perfect suite if you have kids or an Airbnb space. This is the original covering from the mid-1960’s- it’s about 55 years old in these photos and look at it! No guessing how easy it will be to clean- marks clean off with a warm damp cloth. The durability is one part of the suite’s biggest selling point- with some sense this suite will last another lifetime (but most likely longer). The other part is the investment appeal- it won’t lose value like a new suite. In fact, I can’t see any reason why it won’t increase in value in the future. After 18 years in this business I’ve never had another Pongrass dining suite like this to sell- I can’t remember the last time I’ve even seen one like this. If I love this design and you love it too, I think a swarm of other people out there will also love it. The fact it’s rare and it’s highly unlikely you’ll come across another one again gives it VERY STRONG investment appeal. It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it- I reckon it’ll be another iNVISeDGE item where people will offer me significantly more money for it after it has sold. And I doubt I’ll ever get another like it again.
The really important thing this suite has going for it is the comfort. For dining chairs they’re great- they’re not the most comfortable dining chairs I’ve ever had but they are certainly excellent for comfort. (The backs are a little low in my opinion for perfect comfort but this is to tailor a more refined, less bulky look.) The chairs are soft and padded with a nice curved back (the back is also sumptuously padded)- they’re really nice to settle into and the swivel-feature adds extra comfort and practicality.
If dining chairs look like this after about 55 years of use, the QUALITY is irrefutable. If the design is still noticed for all the right reasons after 55 years, it has come to supersede trends and is timeless. Buying quality vintage furniture is the best way to go in my eyes. SOLID INVESTMENT APPEAL, originally MADE IN AUSTRALIA back in the swinging 60’s and now being re-sold by an AUSTRALIAN small business 55 years on. To top it off there’s no better way to reduce landfill and your carbon footprint. Bravo to quality vintage Australian furniture! (NOTE- Two of these chairs still retain the original vintage Pongrass labels to solidify the investment appeal- another bonus!)
