Provenance and Background Info

(Written in 2019)

A set of 6 KENDALL swivel dining chairs designed and produced in Australia in the 1960’s. These are so cool and stylish- love them! This suite is certainly something I’d have in my own home (in the right type of space). The two-tone effect is perfect- I love the contrasts between the textured fronts and the smoothness of the outer surfaces. If you’re in a bland modern apartment, these chairs will help add some personality and character to your home- they have a retro slant but are strangely modernist at the same time. That’s timelessness for you!

These chairs tick all the boxes! Just look at them after about 60 years of use- the condition is exceptional due to the QUALITY and DURABILITY of the construction. INVESTMENT APPEAL also gets a huge tick- there’s no way they could produce chairs in this design even in China for this sort of price, but these are authentic VINTAGE chairs made in AUSTRALIA at a time where they didn’t cut corners … and proof of that is shown in these photos. Practicality also gets a big tick- the vinyl on the outside is as tough as nails and wipes clean- the woven wool on the interior is also as tough as nails- wool will repel spills and stains- again, proof in that comment is in the condition of these chairs after about 60 years of use. These are seriously amazing chairs and the type of thing you won’t come across again. Particularly as a set of 6. The final big tick is for the COMFORT! Amazingly comfortable- good height for your back, your arms nestle into the sides beautifully, they swivel and you just melt into the shape. You’d be able to have long leisurely dinners in these chairs- no doubt there!

I was told these chairs were made by Kendall- I believe they are by Kendall but there are no labels to substantiate this. Kendall is most likely- Wallace is another option that comes to mind. They are certainly vintage- most likely late-1960’s and certainly made in Australia.

If dining chairs look like this after about 55 years of use, the QUALITY is irrefutable. If the design is still noticed for all the right reasons after about 55 years, it has come to supersede trends and is timeless. Buying quality vintage furniture is the best way to go in my eyes. SOLID INVESTMENT APPEAL, originally MADE IN AUSTRALIA back in the swinging 60’s and now being re-sold by an AUSTRALIAN small business about 55 years on. There’s no better way to reduce landfill and your carbon footprint. Bravo to quality vintage Australian furniture!

These Kendall swivel chairs are in brilliant condition for chairs that have been used for 60-odd years. Structurally they are all solid and sturdy. I’ve carefully checked every chair. There are NO old repairs, NO breakage and NO cracks around any joint. They've been built to last. The chairs all swivel well and the comfort overall is brilliant. These chairs are about 55 years old so will have minor signs of use. There's nothing that warrants a specific mention though or stands out. All of the black floor protectors are still present. The powder-coated metal bases show minor wear along the top edges- the metal in these areas is shiny. I like this authentic sign of being vintage- this is not unsightly at all and in fact is barely noticed unless you're closely inspecting the bases. I think it adds to the character of these chairs and certainly does not detract. The wool on one chair has a tiny hole- I have circled this on one of the photos. It's tiny! You have to be told it exists to be able to spot it and even then I missed it the first time I looked over each chair. The upholstery is clean and very nice- it's has NO marks, NO stains, NO noticeable wear, NO smells NO discolouration and is not threadbare at all! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements. CHAIRS Across- 54cm. Depth- 52cm. Seat Height- around 46cm. (This measurement is hard to get because the seats are padded and also curve up on each side. The 46cm measurement is taken at the front of the seat and in the middle- not at the end.) Total Height- 82cm. Armrest height- 69.5cm. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Read my 1180+ ebay feedback comments spanning 22+ years (ALL for vintage furniture and decorative arts SALES) to be assured that all my items are described as accurately as I can.
