Provenance and Background Information
(Written in 2020)
For quite some time I was reading this as the MegaSlim design but it’s actually Medaslim. Mega- Slim would also be very fitting- these chairs have a beautifully lean profile and are sleek and stylish. The MedaSlim chair was created by Alberto Meda (hence the name!) for Vitra in 2004. Vitra is a highly-regarded furniture production company that’s responsible for designs by many heavyweight designers such as Charles & Ray Eames, Verner Panton and heaps by Antonio Citterio (who has designed for B & B Italia, Cassina, Moroso and Kartell).
I love the unprecedented sense of style these Vitra chairs would bring to a boardroom or office space- they’re stylish and elegant but also have an element of boldness and confidence. With their elegance, I could also picture them in various dining rooms too.
These designer chairs tick every box and were an obvious choice for iNVISeDGE. They’re a robust universal chair that could be used for any application- whether it be behind an office desk, in meeting rooms, restaurants or cafes, the MedaSlim offers exceptional comfort. “The flexible backrest frame, seat and front legs are moulded in one piece and adapt to the user’s body movements. Together with the breathable net-weave fabric, the design ensures comfortable sitting over extended periods of time.” (Taken from the Vitra website.) You’d be hard pressed to find a more comfortable chair but the practicality doesn’t end there- these chairs also stack together- great if you have to put them away when not always needed and for easier transport. The looks also get a tick- the mix of sleek black and shiny steel creates a captivating aesthetic. Durability also gets a huge tick- the tags underneath specify that this set was made in 2008- look at them after 12 years of use- incredible!
But the biggest drawcard for this listing is investment appeal. These retail in America for about AU $7300 for a set of 6- see the screenshot provided. Vitra couldn’t even make 6 MedaSlim chairs for this price! I can’t see these chairs losing any value while you get to use them. I’ve never come across them in Australia before- I’d say the retail price here in Australia would be the same as the US- they have some distance to get here from Germany.
And to top it off, these designer chairs offer one of the most environmentally-friendly purchases you can make. The QUALITY construction ensures they won’t end up as landfill or in our oceans anytime soon. Buying items that have been carefully considered in every regard (particularly DURABILITY) is our only way out of this mess. There’s no better way to invest in your home and future generations … and yes I see no reason why these chairs won’t be passed on from this generation to the next.
