Provenance and Background Info
These Douglas Snelling dining chairs sold through iNVISeDGE in 2006 for $1800 for all 6. I’d price the exact same chairs at slightly more today (2019). TABLES ARE PRICED SEPARATELY!

A set of SIX DOUGLAS SNELLING upholstered dining chairs. Snelling’s work was a breath of fresh air for the Australian furniture market at the time and today is a symbol of the era- the fun and optimism of the 1950’s shines through in his designs. His work has steadily increased in value over the last 15-20 years and stands alongside Grant Featherston pieces as the Australian furniture of this era that consistently generates excitement. The upholstered chairs by Snelling are just as rare as the webbed variety and I think look just as good. Because there are six matching chairs in brilliant ORIGINAL condition the value of this set today is greatly enhanced- as is their re-sale value in the future. I’m 100% certain these are Douglas Snelling chairs (most liekly mid to late 1950’s)- there are various reasons for this. Most telling is a very feint stamp with Snelling’s design number on it- this is barely legible and it was probably the third time I looked under the chairs I even noticed it. (The plastic-type decal is the most common label for Snelling’s work but some of his work was labelled with an ink stamp (I think it was his later output that had the ink stamp.) This is a great investment suite- these a very comfortable vintage dining chair and with the mix of fluid lines and sharp angles they have great style. PICTURED TABLES ARE ALWAYS PRICED SEPARATELY!
