Description/Provenance

A SIGNED WHITE and GREY vintage vase created by Per Olaf Strom for Alsterfors. Type in “20th Century Forum, Alsterfors” and you’ll see some incredible pieces done by Per Olaf Strom. His work is highly collectable amongst die-hard collectors particularly in Europe but is little known in the wider community because of small production runs. I rate Per Olaf Strom’s work above most of what was done by Holmegaard but that’s just my opinion. His work has an edge that eludes most others.

The piece in this listing is a highly collectable lidded bowl. Displaying all of the trademarks of Per Olaf Strom pieces (and most Alsterfors pieces at the time), this piece has been HAND-SIGNED- PO Strom ’68 in his distinctive script (1968). This is one of his earlier pieces and most likely experimental. I’ve never seen another in this exact design before though his other work is identical in construction. I love the uniqueness of the design- it’s incredible that this piece when nestled amongst Holmegaard pieces actually takes the limelight away from Holmegaard (see the group photo- OTHERS NOT INCLUDED). This piece doesn’t scream for attention but there’s something about it that draws you in.

Per Olaf Strom is the most highly-regarded of all the Alsterfors designers. Alsterfors pieces are an artistic feat considering they’re each made BY HAND- the expertise of the artists is awe-inspiring. This piece is no different and is expert but it’s possible to see aspects of the construction that make it obvious it has been HAND-MADE. The shape is not entirely perfect (though this certainly isn’t noticeable) and there are also a few thin black lines within the white glass (where the glass changes shape). I’ve seen this in other hand-made pieces with opaque white casings. Alsterfors pieces are basically impossible to find in Australia (they’re at least 60 times rarer in Australia compared to the UK) and this piece is rarer again. This art glass is vintage, HAND-MADE and HAND-SIGNED making it a great way to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
