A RED vintage art vase designed by Bo Borgstrom, produced BY HAND by Aseda of Sweden. This is my favourite design from the Aseda line. It’s bold, simple, captivating and a substantial piece so can become a vocal point of a glass collection (every though it is so simple). These pieces in BOLD colours are rare (light blue and amber are quite common (red ones are hard to get). These came in TWO sizes that I’m aware of. This is the LARGER size standing at an impressive 26cm in height.

The thing I love most about these is that they’re HAND-CRAFTED and very nicely done. I love the intensity of colour at the base of this one- a hallmark of quality HAND-BLOWN art glass. Machine-made pieces rarely (if ever) have this.

This piece was made in the early 1970’s and competed with the inventories of Holmegaard and the other Scandinavian makers such as Riihimaki and Alsterfors. These designers were the first artists to produce simple but interesting shapes in glass. They’re an artistic feat considering they’re each made by hand- the expertise of the artists is quite awe-inspiring.

I’ve never seen another one like this in Australia in the 20 years I’ve been in this business (ie. red AND in the larger size). They have solid values worldwide but in Australia they’re at least 50 times rarer than in Europe. (They were never retailed back in the 1960’s when they were produced.) There are very few better ways (if any) to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. Good HAND-CRAFTED art glass can and does retain its value over time and in fact vintage pieces by iconic glass-makers such as Aseda increases in value as you get to enjoy it in your home. It’s a win for you AND our environment!
