Provenance and Background Information

An armchair, by Musterring of Germany. Musterring is an internationally known furniture-brand that has been in business more than 8 decades! No company will last in the marketplace for 80 years unless they’re doing a lot right. This suite is over 20-years-old and retailed new for AU $20,000. Every piece is still in full original condition- it’s obvious it has been built to last. The quality FULL-GRAIN leather is thick, luxurious and beautiful to touch. The suite is bold in looks but the curves in the arm soften the design, as do the round cushions.

The thing I love most about this suite is the COMFORT! This suite is VERY comfortable- really soft but still supportive at the same time. Watch your stresses melt away when you laze around in this one! There are air vents on the undersides of the cushions which allow just the right amount of air to pass through for a floating-comfort you’ll just love! You can also lie back and snooze in this suite (particularly if you use the ottoman). Alternatively, put one of the included small cushions behind your lower back to sit up with full seating support and comfort. (The matching sofa- which is priced separately- is also generous in size so you can lie out on the sofa without needing the ottoman. Enquire for our value-price on the full suite.)

Musterring operates with a sense of obligation to the idea of quality materials, workmanship, form and function- all these elements must be of the highest quality to bear the Musterring trademark. This suite is HEAVY and incredibly well-built. The frames are solid as a rock after all these years of use, and the cushions are still beautiful and plush.

1^stdibs had the exact same suite as this one, for AU $6,000. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a screen-shot when I spotted that listing a few weeks ago- it obviously sold because it’s no longer online. There are a few Musterring pieces currently for sale on 1^stDibs. Small second-hand sofas (that are not as nice as this design) are listed at AU $2,100 EACH. There’s also an armchair very similar to this design listed on its own (for over AU $1,000 for ONE armchair).

Musterring is a family business, established in 1938 by German furniture architect Josef Honer. By 1951, Musterring furniture struggled to keep up with demand and by 1953 they were receiving awards for their designs. In 1975, they introduced a 5-year guarantee which offered customers a high level of reliability. The 5-year guarantee remains to this day. More recently, Musterring has been part of a large-scale environmental initiative to save Municipal Forests. To date, well over 50,000 new trees have been planted from donations provided by Musterring and its partners.
