Background Info and Provenance
A stunning BLUE HAND-MADE decanter by Blenko (USA) about 55 years ago. This one was designed by Wayne Husted. His designs are extraordinary. They’re not complicated in style yet they always jump out at you. That mix of simplicity with eye-popping-wow is something I can never go past. This is the best genie bottle I’ve had and as you can see by the photos it has found its way into various of my group photos over the years.
Wayne Husted was a designer for Blenko from 1953 to 1963. Blenko has been in business since 1893 and has produced a huge assortment of stunning art glass often pushing boundaries and starting new trends. The Blenko story on their website is a fascinating read and depicts a business built by people for people. Blenko is still in business to this day using time-honoured traditions and people to produce their products BY HAND. In a world where machines are taking over, Blenko is a company that reminds us that heart and soul can still be found. Every Blenko item has been HAND-MADE by artisans- their passion obvious in every piece.
I trawled worldwide to find another decanter in this design and found only one at the time of writing- priced at AU$660 in America. In Australia I doubt you’ll see another one of these for a long time to come- if ever. With the sand-blasted Blenko mark to the base this is a very solid investment.
This HAND-MADE art-glass piece by Blenko is bound to be passed from one generation to the next. It’s already about 50 years old and the design captivates at least as much today as it did when it was first made. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
This vintage Blenko piece is in excellent condition for its age with no damage to report at all. NO cracks, NO chips, NO repairs. It presents very well. The piece has slight clouding inside from prior use. I’ve tried hard to photograph this and you may notice it if you look closely at some photos. On a white background it is never noticed. I photographed it on a dark background as well to try and show the clouding. (Who in their right mind would display this on a dark background though?) You will notice the clouding on the dark background but even then it doesn’t spoil the piece- it doesn’t bother me at all and never has. (I’ve had this one for about 6 years now.)
This piece has a height of 53cm (with the stopper on) and measures 16.5cm across at the widest point. Without the stopper the base section on its own is 37cm. With its size it’s certainly the focal point of group display but the sleek stylishness means it won’t dominate. Read my 1200+ feedback comments spanning 15+ years (ALL for vintage design SALES). This is your guarantee that I strive to describe all my items as accurately as I can and I will not stock items unless they are in excellent condition.
PICK-UP . . . from 30 or 40 minutes North of BRISBANE city is accepted but postage is preferred as my home is hard to find. Because of this I will nominate a friend or family member for you to collect the item from if you need collection. Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
