Background Info and Provenance

A LIMITED EDITION artist print (created BY HAND) by world-renowned artist, Donald Boonacker. Boonacker is a self-taught Dutch artist who has a colourful, warm and a sunny outlook on life and has translated this onto canvas. His work is unelaborate and rather innocent. This one is stunning with its predominant use of sky-blue tones but also calming. Inside the modern home Boonacker’s art gives a break from the busyness and complications going on outside. His work is “clean” and minimalist but at the same time gives us something. Boonacker shows us that peace and joy can be found in the simplest of things- in nature, in the way the sun is setting in the afternoon or the shape of a rocky outcrop or lake.

Bonnacker’s work has a huge following. His canvas paintings are worth … well he had a few for sale on his website last time I looked but now there are none. They were around AU$4000-AU$7000. I did find an original for sale while researching this listing in an Amsterdam gallery online for 2900 euro (AU$4500).

The painting on offer here is an artist-print of “Via Cassia, Italie” done under the direction of Boonacker. This print is number 107 of 125. (Only 125 of this design were printed- this design has now almost sold out.) It was printed using time-honoured techniques that are being lost in the modern world. The printing process is complicated and time-intensive. For each colour Boonacker re-draws the work on a transparent film. Some of his works may consist of 30 colour hallways (and 30 films). Only 3 or 4 colours can be printed in a single day to allow drying time. Therefore some prints take several weeks to accomplish. After each colour the sieve is flushed out and dried ready for the next colour. This is a traditional process Boonacker undertakes in Amsterdam, Holland- ALL in limited numbers- usually 125.

When these artist prints came up I jumped at them (I bought several in an auction. The others I had online have sold. These are the only others I have at this point in time.) I’ve been studying visual arts for years and decorative arts for over 12 years and these stood out from everything else I’ve seen for a long time. This particular painting would liven up any bare wall- the splashes of colour attract attention but the minimalism of his style will not crowd your space.

The Boonacker “Via Cassia, Italia” print is still available on his website for 700 euro which equates to AU$1055 making this a very strong investment. The painting is hand-signed signed in Boonacker’s usual style. Visit his website for further details on his work.

If you believe artist jobs should NOT be given to machines consider investing in hand-made paintings or prints- this sends a clear message that you would like artist jobs to be given back to people. There are few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
