Background Info and Provenance

A HUGE (39 cm in height) brass sculpture of Lord Vishnu created BY HAND. Most metal deity-sculptures are about 11 cm in height- this is huge compared to those. I’ve been told this piece was done in 1800’s- I’m no expert in this field but have been dealing in vintage items for 17 years. I’m certain it’s antique but just how old it is I don’t know. It’s got a beautiful AUTHENTIC patina and has been treasured and used as a meditation deity- I estimate for over 100 years. Old techniques were employed to create the piece which are rarely (or never) used anymore. If you look at any of the new replicated ones and compare, the differences are obvious. All the new ones have been created by pouring metal into a mould- therefore all the decorative elements are quite pronounced- not so with this one. If you look closely it becomes obvious that many of the finer decorative elements have been later HAND-CARVED. The piece has been extremely well done with an attention to detail that is lost in the new ones.

Vishnu is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, and the Supreme Being in its Vaishnavism tradition. Vishnu is the “preserver” of life. He has four arms which indicate his all-powerful and all-pervasive nature. His physical existence is represented by the two arms in the front, while the two arms at the back represent his presence in the spiritual world

The thing I love most about this piece is its auspicious nature. It’s calming and centering to have around because it has been used as a meditation deity for years. It’s got great prana (life energy) too because the mould and various finer details were all done by hand. It’s a high-quality piece with beautiful detailing and one I see lasting forever.

Why buy something mass-produced by machines, made from toxic chemical resins when antique metal pieces look at least as good and have character the new ones will never have? (The resin ones are susceptible to breaks and chips and ending up as landfill- to me it makes no sense having them made.) When you invest in antique items for your home you have the bonus of owing a piece with investment appeal (this piece should NOT lose any value in the future). I did extensive research online before listing it. I could see NONE others worldwide that came close to resembling this one. Various comparable antique deities are around $550-$1200- this one is by far the cheapest offering of a comparable item worldwide that I could find. Investment appeal aside by “recycling” antique treasures you’re reducing your carbon footprint.
