Background Information and Provenance

A HAND-MADE art-glass piece by highly-respected American artist, Brian Maytum. The piece is signed Maytum Studios, 1988 with the design number and the copyright symbol. This is a stunning piece as part of group- the colour is rare. This is an oil burner but if the wick was removed it could also be used as a vase. It’s the first iridescent piece I’ve come across in this colour in Australia. It has an expressive style- wispy and free-flowing and the iridescent swirls seem to just disappear into the piece.

Brian Maytum opened a glass studio in Colarado, USA and whilst I couldn’t find definitive dates of when his studio opened and closed I have seen pieces of his dated from the early 1980’s through until about 2000. His pieces are stunning and his contribution has gone down in the history or American contemporary art glass.

If this piece had been by Colin Heaney I’d be asking about double for it (because it’s quite large for an iridescent piece). Brian’s pieces are also hand-made and offer something outside of what has been done in Australian glass.

If you believe art should be made by the hands of people (and not machines) consider investing in hand-made art- there are very few better ways to invest in your home and also reduce landfill.
