$1,095 for the CHISWELL extension dining table- circle to oval. This table accommodates 6 chairs in its UNEXTENDED state- it’s a circular shape unextended. It extends to become an oval and can then seat 8. We also have 4 matching PARKER dining chairs from the same home which are priced and listed SEPARATELY. We are keen to keep this suite together but will entertain offers for either part of the suite.
LOCATION- being sold under consignment by a private seller in Breakfast Point, SYDNEY. I personally inspected this suite and photographed it.
Background Information & Provenance
(Written in 2025)
This stylish teak dining table was made in the late-1960’s in Sydney. I’m almost certain it was made by much-celebrated, CHISWELL Furniture. It doesn’t have a label but is identical to other Chiswell tables I’ve sold in the past. It’s one of the best furniture pieces Chiswell made and very sought-after due to it’s practicality and shape. The shape and styling are the epitome of refined elegance but it’s the size that makes it so attractive. This suite is perfect to have set up in a small space- as a 6-seater table it’s quite small. It then extends and can accommodate another 2 chairs- 8 seater dining tables are highly sought-after- the extension mechanism is also a joy to use! If you’re really pressed for space, have it set up in its circular shape with 4 or 6 chairs- then pull in two additional chairs when needed for dinner parties. I love the stylish elegance of this piece- it’s ALL curves and very refined. You won’t find a dining table that fits the Danish furniture aesthetic any better. The suite set-up with these matching chairs is one of the nicest dining suites iNVISeDGE has ever had.
This table is a great investment at this price- these circle to oval ones are really hard to get and I doubt this table could even be made in China these days any cheaper (to these exact same specifications) but this a GENUINE VINTAGE piece made in AUSTRALIA in the late-1960’s by a highly-esteemed company that became esteemed because of QUALITY construction (and the attention to detail shown in all their furniture). Chiswell Furniture from the 1960’s is highly coveted and as such, is some of the most collectable Australian furniture ever made.
Suites like this are getting VERY hard to get- the investment appeal is obvious. Suites from the mid-century modern era have constantly increased in value for the full 24 years I’ve been in this business- there’s no reason why this won’t continue. They have a timeless style that’s not subject to trends. After the majority of modern dining chairs end up as landfill, this vintage Parker dining suite will be passed on to a new custodian and then a new generation. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and the future of our environment.
