A 1960’s CHISWELL FURNITURE cocktail unit with amazing storage potential. The cocktail/drinks cabinet is highly unusual and rarely seen- if you’re looking for a storage piece with ample storage that will take up a small footprint, this could be the piece for you. The Pallisander Rosewood timber veneer is RARE and highly sought-after- look at the amazing swirls and patterning in the timber- this is nature at its most extraordinary. This is the first Australian piece done in Pallisander Rosewood I’ve ever seen. I only recently discovered that Chiswell even used Rosewood. They obviously didn’t use it for long because pieces in Rosewood are very rare. I’m unaware of any other Australian manufacturer that ever used it. This is a vintage piece with Danish influence, clean lines and a stunning grain in the timber. Showing superior construction qualities and attention to detail, Chiswell Furniture pieces were highly respected in their day and still are. My guess is that this piece was done around 1965 because it has the earlier Chiswell sticker in the drawer. Rosewood pieces are HIGHLY collectable- in the 1970’s it was realised this timber was becoming endangered so very little furniture in this timber was ever produced- most Rosewood furniture is vintage and the majority in Europe. With the bold but sleek style and obvious investment appeal, pieces like this are the antiques of the future. With the vintage Chiswell sticker, you are guaranteed of its resale value- but I doubt you’ll ever want to part with it!
