Provenance and Background Info
A gorgeous 2-seater lounge sofa produced in the early-1980’s by acclaimed AUSTRALIAN furniture company Danish Deluxe (price is for the SOFA ONLY- the single seater chair will be listed shortly). In my opinion this is one of Danish Deluxe’s best vintage designs and is becoming highly sought-after. It has the curves and sleek refined quality of Westnofa’s highly celebrated designs (such as the Siesta) BUT without the price tag. Second-hand Norwegian Siesta chairs are fetching about $1600 EACH in the trendy designer shops in Melbourne. Westnofa did NOT ever do a 2-seater sofa in the Siesta design though (just the single chair) which stands this cool suite apart. I really love the colour of this suite too- the light tones marry well with the refined styling, giving the suite a cool Swedish / Scandinavian look.
The FULL-GRAIN leather is SUPERB in quality and after many years of use, the leather is soft to the touch and very supple. Fall into this suite at the end of a hard day and it will feel like you’re melting into a cloud.
So graceful in looks- yet minimalist … plus it has a cool vintage slant. Danish Deluxe was an AUSTRALIAN business that was commissioned to produce various licensed European designs in the 1960’s and 70’s (including some famous Danish designs). This sofa though is unique on a worldwide platform and will add an interesting slant to your space.
This design is not only durable but COMFORTABLE. The cushioning is great- the angles, proportions and height of the back are all brilliant for comfort. The height of the back coupled with the subtle curve you see in the back, is optimal for comfort. This suite looks stunning but this is NOT at the expense of comfort!
This particular suite is also unlike virtually any other in this design I’ve seen. The other Danish Deluxe suites I’ve ever come across have been very dark in colour, both the frames and leather. These are nice and light, they promote a gentler look and can be more easily worked into any space including a small modern apartment because it doesn’t look imposing AT ALL.
This suite has been thoroughly cleaned and conditioned and is in excellent condition overall (some minor marks to the leather only from normal use).
The timber pieces are connected together with thick metal bolts. This creates a very strong chair. Most vintage chairs have timber pieces fitting into each other at the joint areas- any major stress on those areas can create cracks, splits and breaks in the structure of the chairs. For this design the main areas of stress are placed on thick metal bolts and various pieces of thick, flat timber- this means these chairs should never have any structural issue (if you use them with any sense). The bolts need to be tightened after every few years of use- if this is done, this suite will last a lifetime (just as it already has). This lounge is already about 40 years old and ready for another generation of use and enjoyment.
Many mass-produced modern suites are ending up as landfill in as little as a decade of use. This suite has not only avoided landfill for about 40 years, it is now ready to be moved straight into another lounge room. (My vendor has given the leather a thorough clean- this is all that was needed for this suite). On top of this, this is an overlooked design that could never be produced again for anything like this price. The investment appeal in this listing is a no-brainer- watch the value of this suite rise in coming years! Danish Deluxe suites (in timeless colours such as this) should only increase in value in the future meaning this is not a purchase at all but a solid INVESTMENT. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and our environment. It’s a win – win … for everybody and our environment!
