Background Info and Provenance
This piece sold through iNVISeDGE for $1200 back in 2009. Today in 2019 I’d price the same piece at around $1500.

I don’t stock many sideboards like this anymore because most were mass-produced in the 1960’s and virtually ALL are made of teak veneer over chipboard. The quality is really not all that great and not what I’d class as investment furniture so I tend to steer clear of them. HOWEVER this one was made of SOLID TIMBER with a quality teak veneer to finish it off and provide a “clean” minimalist look. The veneer on this piece was to eradicate the look of timber planks (and joints), to create a tidier look NOT to hide chipboard! The quality of this piece was exceptional so it would certainly be something I’d stock again. The edge along the floor has a chrome look which is highly unusual.
Today in 2019, ten years after I sold this piece I’ve still not come across anything like it so still don’t know the maker. I’d say it was more than likely European but it may have been done by one of the Australian boutique makers of the era such as Dario Zoureff. One thing I’m sure of, it’s an exceptional piece of cabinetry and the iNVISeDGE buyer of this one in 2009 wasn’t really a buyer at all but an astute investor. This piece will continue increase in value along with inflation AT LEAST and if a definitive maker is identified the value could increase exponentially.
