This price (AU $189, which is significantly LESS in American $) is for the vase shown in every photo (on its own). A HAND-CRAFTED vase with iridescense by Robert Wynne.

Background Info and Provenance

A HAND-MADE iridescent vase stamped “Denizen” to the base. Wynne is considered an Australian pioneer of studio art glass and his pieces are represented in Australia and internationally (including the collections of President Bill Clinton, Sir Elton John and the Royal Family of Japan). I’ve seen several Robert Wynne pieces on ebay over the years in America priced at AU$2000. I’ve also seen a piece of his earlier work bid up to about $2000 at Shapiros auctions a few years back.

This piece is part of the “Terrain Series” that mimics the seismic activity happening in the earth. Wynne has had an interest in these seismic forces for years- the forces that both create and destroy. Perhaps these pieces of art act as a reminder to us all that destruction and creation are a part of life and on opposite sides of the same coin.

The skill exhibited here is astounding. This one is way better than other recent ones I’ve seen in this series. The lines are so closely spaced around the red blob that I wonder how he actually achieved this. The feint iridescence heightens the appeal. I also love that this is a very tactile piece- the lines are raised and can be felt. It’s a real beauty.

This piece is a great investment and worth a decent more right now (and I think it will only get more valuable as the years roll on). Robert Wynne has a proven track record for pushing boundaries and over the years his work has constantly evolved.

The work of other artists such as Colin Heaney didn’t evolve as much. Google, “Robert Wynne – Raven” and you’ll be inspired. If you dig into Wynne for a bit you’ll see that he’s constantly mixing it up and growing as an artist.

This piece has a flow and essence that epitomizes why Wynne has gone on to become one of Australia’s most respected artists. This is not just my opinion. Wynne recently won the coveted Kirra Galleries National Illuminating Glass Award with a $15,000 prize attached for his piece, “Raven’s Clutch”. He was also named in the Valiant Glass’ Top 10 Australian Glass Artists when this list was compiled.

Google, Robert Wynne glass and if you dig a little you’ll see some amazing pieces of work. This hand-made piece of art will be passed from one generation to the next. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. And additionally when you buy hand-made art you’re supporting an industry where décor items come from the hands and hearts of artists (people) and not machines.
