Description
These chairs sold through iNVISeDGE for $1195 THE PAIR back in 2008. Today in 2019 I’d price the exact same pair at around $1450-$1650.
Background Info and Provenance
Written in 2008 when this pair sold
A stylish PAIR of single-seater lounge chairs made by Dox Rex Furniture of Brisbane. I believe this pair was produced in the late 1960’s. One chair has a S1 Australian Furniture Standards tag which verifies the Australian provenance of the pair. I am proud to say they’re Australian because these chairs are one of the best designs in this style I’ve come across. I like them more than Parker lounge chairs of the same era. Parker basically copied the designs that were being done in Denmark years before. This design is distinct and not really like anything else I’ve come across. Yes it’s obvious that Don Rex was also influenced by Danish Furniture but he took this inspiration and did his own thing. These chairs boast the high-quality craftsmanship that made Don Rex Furniture a highly-respected furniture brand of the era. I like that these are by Don Rex because there’s a lot less of them around. Because Don Rex was based in Brisbane and had a very small market up in Brisbane back in the 60’s and 70’s their work is not seen as regularly as Parker and Fler.
This pair has just been reupholstered in a high-quality fabric stocked by WARWICK FABRICS (an Australian brand). This textile fabric gives the chairs a look that’s not only timeless but also contemporary and stylish. The stunning exposed timber frame offers this design a look that’s a cut above anything new you’d find in the stores. With regards to comfort they’re also brilliant- a great mix of support and plush relaxation. These vintage pieces make a solid investment and should only increase in value in the future- why spend money on furniture when you can invest in it instead?
Investing in vintage furniture is a great way to go- the construction of this pair has already proven itself over 60 years of use and the design is just as timeless. This restrained Danish styling is as popular as it has ever been. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
