Provenance and Background Info

(Predominantly written in 2014 and updated in 2022.)

A PAIR of lounge sofas by Eero Aarnio for Framac in the late-1970’s. This particular suite was probably produced in the very-early-1980’s. Aarnio’s designs were an important aspect of 1960’s popular culture and are often seen in science-fiction films. Most of his designs have been copied to the death so are readily recognizable by almost anybody (such as the Ball chair and Pastilli chair). The exception however is this design. This belongs to the Silver Collection and the production rights were bought by Mobel Italia in the 1970’s in Italy. Mobel Italia apparently went bust soon after releasing this design so these pieces are virtually impossible to find in Europe. How the Silver Collection designs came to land in Australia is anyone’s guess but they’re near impossible to find on a worldwide platform (and in Australia they are not easy to find either.)

What I love most about this Eero Aarnio design is the superior quality of the construction. I’ve stocked a few of these armchairs over the last 21 years and all of them have been structurally perfect. For 40-year-old chairs, often used in commercial waiting rooms, this is the best commendation of the design. They’re solid, heavy chairs- the metal is high quality and thick, the inner cushioning is high in density and superior in quality as is the upholstery Framac used. The suite on offer here has a new life waiting for it.

These Eero Aarnio pieces are a great investment- there’s a high demand for them and if they’re looked after, these pieces shouldn’t lose any value in the future while you get to use them. You won’t get that buying from virtually anywhere else! The other advantage is that this is a rare vintage piece so will add a creative original spark to your space. It could also be great in an artistic studio. I re-upholstered a pair of these in white leather back in 2006- they sold immediately and looked AMAZING!

The last set of these Eero Aarnio Framac pieces that iNVISeDGE had came out of a lawyer’s waiting room in Melbourne back in 2014. (It has taken us 8 years to get this design again- they are not easy to get!) This suite (and the previous suite we had) is in FULL ORIGINAL condition and looks amazing. Both of these suites are in 100% wool. Wool is easy to keep clean and looking good over the years as it tends to repel stains and dirt. The woollen fabric that Framac used has various colours running through it and from a distance away looks tan. Framac made a great neutral colour-choice here that would nestle in well with any minimalist creative space from an office through to a modern apartment. These are very comfortable pieces to sit in too, so perfect for any use.

This pair of Eero Aarnio sofas are about 40 years old and in stunning condition. They have been made to last- to tell stories for generations to come. After much of the cheap “designer” furniture of today has ended up as landfill, these Framac sofas will be passed onto yet another owner and soon an entirely new generation. There are very few better ways to invest in your home or office and reduce your carbon footsprint.

1901 ? and 2208

Both of these lounges (in neutral-colour AUSTRALIAN wool) are in extremely good condition for pieces that are around 40 years old. The structure and cushioning is in brilliant condition with no issues at all. This vintage cushioning is holding it's shape extremely well and shows no signs of deterioration at all. The chrome is also in extremely good condition for its age. We had NOT cleaned the chrome before the photos showing both lounges (the lighting was perfect at the time we had set up and we didn't want to risk losing it- plus it was threatening to rain). For the close-up photos we did, the chrome frame of one of the sofas had been polished up- the other had not. The polishing was a quick, simple process (we just used a non-abrasive plastic cleaning pad with water). ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We believe that the upholstery is 100% PURE wool (most likely Australian wool from the late-1970's)- one thing is for sure, this is a quality vintage covering. (These sofas were not cheap back in the day). The upholstery is in excellent condition overall for pieces that are 40 years old. One sofa has two small holes as shown in our photos. These could be professionally repaired and I'd say a professional would get them to the point where they would be barely noticed at all (they are barely noticeable already- they're not big and not in a conspicuous spot). Using the darning technique and threads from the original fabric (taken from underneath the sofa.) The upholstery will have other minor signs of use of age but there are no other condition issues that warrant a mention at all. The upholstery is very clean for fabric sofas of this age (because they are wool and wool tends to repel stains). There are no noticeable marks or stains. The sofas have no odours. They are ready to be used and loved as they are (unless you want to do something about the 2 small holes but even that is not necessary though- the sofas look really good as they are). _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements.
