A FOLD-OUT sofa-bed made in Italy about 10 years ago and stocked by the Australian company, Fanuli. This piece retailed for about $5000 when it was first sold. It’s the best sofa-bed I’ve come across (in 17 years of trading). It’s easily the highest quality sofa bed I’ve seen and the look is also up there with the best. Fler Narvik sofa-beds are also stunning but the quality is not the same. The Narvik is really made to only sleep one person. When folded out, this Fanuli piece has been built to sleep two people. (I’ve seen various Fler Narvik sofa beds broken and repaired over the years- it’d be really hard to break this piece though. It’s solid and very sturdy.) The fold-out mechanism is also a joy to use- quick, easy and effortless.
Fanuli is a highly regarded Australian furniture store, well-known for bringing many high-end ITALIAN furniture brands to Australia. This design is no longer stocked by Fanuli and is the first sofa-bed like this I’ve seen. I love the mix of earthiness and chic designer. The timber and cane give the sofa a natural, earthy look but the stunning curves create a design that’s certainly noticed but not harsh and clinical like most designer furniture these days.
The fabric is also high-quality and in brilliant condition for a “used” lounge. (It has seen very little use.) The seat cushions and back cushions are separate to the frame AND FULLY REVERSIBLE. When the covers get a bit grubby simply flip them over or unzip them and machine-wash (return them to the cushions whilst damp to prevent shrinkage). This means re-upholstery of the cushions is also dead-easy making this piece a smart choice for families with young children or in a heavy-use situation. Durability, handcrafted construction, stunning looks but comfort hasn’t been compromised. The back cushions are plush, thick and soft so this suite is nice to sink into. The seat cushions are firmer providing support to keep the body at the right angle for extended periods of time.
This design is no longer stocked by Fanuli which also gives this piece a tick for investment appeal- try finding another like this for sale.
Trends come and go but when furniture built 10 years ago still stands apart, it has come to supersede trends. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. Top-quality items like this are set to become the antiques of tomorrow.
