A matching vintage PAIR of teak Narvik chairs produced by FLER in the early-1960’s. This is one of Australia’s best adaptions of a Danish design ever. This design has a beautiful sculptural elegance often seen in Danish furniture but is still different to the Danish chairs I’ve come across. The best Parker designs from the 1960’s are stylish and beautiful but I think the Narvik design by FLER is at least as good. I haven’t had a pair of FLER Narvik chairs since 2017! (They’re REALLY hard to get now and have risen in value an incredible amount since 2017. Because they sit at the pinnacle they will continue to always do well from an investment point of view.) I can’t see vintage FLER Narvik pieces losing any value in the future. The quality is at the top- look at these after about 60 years of use- incredible! This upholstery is close to new and has a nice neutral tone with a subtle pop of colour. The upholstery would be easy to work into any home. But if you ever need a change, re-upholstery is a breeze. Simply take the existing cushions with new fabric to anyone who knows how to sew. Re-upholstery is not difficult or costly- in taupe or charcoal these chairs would look just as good but with a different twist.
And I almost forgot. The comfort of FLER Narvik chairs is great. The angles are spot-on for comfort (the back AND seat section are both slanted back slightly to give your back full relaxation). There’s also softness in the comfort- the cushions have a nice plushness to them and the seat has a spring system in a complex web-configuration for total relaxation. The spring system on FLER Narvik chairs is top-of-the-line as far as quality is concerned- this seating system is far superior to conventional webbing that sags and needs to be replaced over the years.
Investing in vintage items such as FLER Narvik lounges is a great way to go. When lounge chairs look like this after about 60 or so years of use, you’re guaranteed of the quality and durability you’re buying. There are very few better ways to invest in your home. By valuing and recycling vintage design you’re helping to reduce landfill and protect our environment for future generations.
