This PAIR of FLER Narvik chairs are the more desirable ones with the seat sections that have metal springs in the complex web configuration. There are other FLER Narvik chairs that have webbing in the seats (webbing stretches / breaks and needs to be replaced over the years)- the steel springs which are in both the seat and back provide supreme support and should last forever- they are already 60 years old and still doing the job perfectly.

A matching vintage PAIR of Narvik chairs produced by FLER in the early-1960’s (designed by Fred Lowen & Ernest Rodeck). This is one of Australia’s best adaptions of a Danish design ever. This design has a beautiful sculptural elegance often seen in Danish furniture but is still different to all the Danish chairs I’ve come across. The best Parker designs from the 1960’s are stylish and beautiful but I think the Narvik design by FLER is at least as good. Pairs of these are getting REALLY hard to get now and have skyrocketed in value particularly in the last 5 or 6 years. And because they sit at the pinnacle of vintage design, they will ALWAYS do well from an investment point of view. I can’t see vintage FLER Narvik pieces losing any value in the future and should only continue appreciating in value at the same rate they have in the past. This furniture was proudly MADE IN AUSTRALIA back in the 1960’s- what a novelty it is to buy Australian-made furniture these days!
The quality is at the top- look at these after about 60 years of use- incredible! This upholstery is probably second or third generation and is in excellent condition- it’s in a nice, neutral tone and would be easy to work into any home. But if you ever need a change, re-upholstery is the easiest possible upholstery job. Simply take the loose existing cushions with new fabric to anyone who knows how to sew. The back springs are easy to remove and these are loose cushions sitting on the frames making them extremely practical all round. Apart from how easy the upholstery job is, the covers can also be removed when they need be washed (always replace the covers whilst still damp to prevent shrinkage.)
And I almost forgot. The comfort of FLER Narvik chairs is brilliant. The angles are spot-on for comfort (the back AND seat section are both slanted back slightly to give your back full relaxation- plus the back is curved too). There’s also softness to the comfort because the cushions have a nice plushness to them. Plus the steel springs in both the back AND seat provide supreme support and just the right amount of “give”.
Investing in vintage items such as FLER Narvik lounges is a great way to go. When lounge chairs look like this after about 60 or so years of use, you’re guaranteed of the quality and durability you’re buying. There are very few better ways to invest in your home. By valuing and recycling vintage design you’re helping to reduce landfill and protect our environment for future generations.
