SOLD to Saeed for $1760 (early-2021) INCLUDING delivery. Regularly click into our NEWLY LISTED Category or follow us at- instagram.com/invisedge

After this piece sold we had two other people desperately wanting it- one offered to pay $2000 for the sofa (without freight) but they were too slow to come in. Once a transaction has been cemented we will never re-neg on the deal.

This price is for the ORIGINAL UNRESTORED FLER day/night sofa (click clack bed) only- the matching pair of chairs are listed SEPARATELY. FOR SALE from a regular iNVISeDGE seller in ADELAIDE but this sofa can be freighted Australia-wide. As an example of cost, it’d be about $250 to freight this sofa to Melbourne via a specialist furniture carrier.

Background Info and Provenance

(Description updated in 2021)

A stunning Fler daybed, typical of the outstanding designs of Fred Lowen and Fler. I believe that this design dates to the late 1950s- it is very similar to the SC55, and pre-dates the extremely popular Fler Narvik which was released in 1961. While the Narvik design is highly-acclaimed, this design with its sculpted teak frame is visually less imposing- giving it a much more streamlined and Nordic look.

As with all Fler day-night sofas, this piece folds back effortlessly into a bed similar in size to a double bed. The metal latches, pins and fold-out legs point to the fact that this is an early release by Fler- the later models have less metal hardware (to cut back on production costs). Therefore the earlier models are more superior and much more durable. The metal legs provide an extremely solid base and stability when the sofa is in the fold-down position.

The other thing I love about this design is the metal sub-structure on the base. This really stabilises the timber frame- the base section is virtually impossible to break because the timber is clad onto a metal frame. (The later models don’t have this because it was a lot more costly to produce.)

This is an extremely practical design- the cushions are loose and sit on top of the metal frame. This is a great design feature which allows the covers to be easily removed for washing, and they can also be easily and cheaply reupholstered (should you decide to recover this at a later date). The cushions can also be flipped over if needed (great if you have kids!).

The olive green boucle-type cover on this suite is ORIGINAL and is in very good condition for age. It is extremely hard-wearing and comfortable- for a suite that is approximately 70 years old, the durability of this fabric (and in fact all the construction) is obvious! The cushioning is also original and close to new.

Re-upholstered, I’ve seen similar sofas currently selling for $2500- sometimes even more!

Replica furniture may be cheap but what are you really getting? Something that’s doubtful to last like this piece has, that exploits the people and earth to produce it and something with no investment appeal (buy it and lose hundreds- or thousands of dollars- instantly). Vintage furniture and in fact any furniture built to stand the test of time and carefully consider function and durability is our only way out of this mess. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.

2002

This day/night sofa is in excellent condition for its age. We have carefully inspected this piece. The timber frame is solid and sturdy with NO movement in any joint, NO wobbles and NO structural flaws. It will survive another 55 years if you use it with a little sense. This piece has been well looked-after over the years and is strong and sturdy. The folding mechanism is original and works exactly as it should. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The frame is in excellent condition overall cosmetically. It has some very minor knocks, small bumps and minor scuffs, which you’d expect of a timber piece of this age but it presents extremely well overall. The inner-springs on the base are brilliant- they're springy and provide excellent support. Inner-springs are the superior base configuration. They will outlast normal webbing which sags over time and needs to be replaced. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The ORIGINAL LATEX/RUBBER cushioning is a good choice for this type of sofa. Some people make the mistake of using very-high density foam in sofas like this because they think it will last longer but this makes them not comfortable enough. This sofa has the right amount of plushness you'd want in a sofa like this. Because the cushioning is very likely to be 70 years old, it's obviously great quality- different to the majority of cushions in the marketplace today. The original latex cushioning on this sofa is holding its shape and integrity well. The cushioning does the job and I see no reason to have it replaced. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The current upholstery, which is ORIGINAL, is clean, presents extremely well and is also completely serviceable as is. It has some fading and minor thread pulls (as shown in our array of photos) but NO holes, NO stains and nothing that spoils the overall presentation of this piece. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A modern fabric would probably make it "pop" even more but the current fabric does the job, is neutral and looks good. We have decided not to replace the upholstery so the new owner can make their own stamp on this piece (or keep enjoying it as is!) _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements. Fler Norsk Sofa. Across - 191 cm. Depth - 73 cm. Seat height - 47 cm. Total height - 80cm. The section to be used as a bed measures 96 cm X 180 cm. FOR FREIGHT- approx. 1.1 cubic metres- the height can be reduced by laying the back-cushions flat. Read my 1200+ ebay feedback comments (100 or so from repeat customers) to be assured that this lounge sofa is as described and I won’t stock items unless they are in excellent condition.
