A designer desk with architectural flair and an industrial slant. This piece was designed and HAND-CREATED by GILL & SON, of East Preston, Melbourne. The desk is kinda pop art in its style and could be adapted to a variety of interiors. In my opinion, the piece probably constructed in the 1950’s or perhaps even 1940’s. It was probably custom-made so it’s possible it’s the only piece of its kind you’ll ever see. The label underneath reads, Customer- GILL, Job No- 1X67, Article- Desk. For those with a creative eye, this piece could offer a blank canvas- by painting each section a different primary colour you could produce a striking work of art or simply enjoy it as is with its rustic vintage appeal.
I have a soft-spot for items like this. ONE-OFF hand-created items are becoming a thing of the past- you rarely see anything like this around anymore. I think the value of something like this can only go up. It has so much more personality than anything I’ve seen by Parker Furniture.
Why buy a plastic and chipboard throwaway thing from Fantastic Furniture when you can invest in something that has already been passed along several generations and should last long after both you and I are gone? There’s no better way to reduce landfill and your carbon footprint.
