Background Info and Provenance

(Written in 2012- if I got another one of these today I’d certainly price it at more $170- this iNVISeDGE buyer got a great investment! These days I’m inclined to think the numbering most certainly indicates a LIMITED EDITION PIECE of only 100 pieces.)

A brilliant art glass piece by Grant Donaldson of Gordon Studio. Gordon Studio is one of a few Australian glass studios at the forefront of glass design and technique. The work of Gordon Studio has been exhibited throughout Australia, Japan, Germany and the USA. All items created by Gordon Studio have been HAND-MADE by artists in Australia. This piece was created by Grant Donaldson the husband of Eileen Gordon (founder of Gordon Studio).  After working on the land for 15 years Grant started his career in glass in 1990, assisting his wife Eileen to establish the Gordon Studio Glassblowers. Grant’s progress as a glass artist has been remarkable and today he is recognised as one of Australia’s most experimental and exciting new glass blowers. If you visit the Gordon website you’ll be delighted by the repertoire of work this artist has produced.

This particular piece is hand-signed to the base and retains the original Gordon Studio label. The base reads, Grant Donaldson 1998, Marble 16/100. I see clouds in this piece spiraling down towards mountains- the heavens intermingling with the earth. This may not be what Grant sees in this piece but that’s the good thing about art- it speaks to us all in different ways.

This piece is actually opaque glass which I believe is harder to produce than transparent glass.

This is a rare opportunity to own a captivating piece from a highly-esteemed artist that is signed, numbered and dated. This is one of Donaldson’s earlier pieces (what a talent!). As he continues to produce work that astounds and mesmerizes the value of Grant Donaldson pieces will increase in value particularly items of this callibre.
