Background Info and Provenance
A large vintage pottery pig made in the 1960’s and marked “Italy” to the base. This piece was crafted and decorated BY HAND and displays a high degree of design and technical skill. It’s a coin-box (piggy-bank) and has the original cork stopper to the base. I love the hand-crafted essence of this one. It’s obvious the clay has been hand-worked- the ears, legs and tail have all been shaped by hand and expertly joined to the body by hand. I also love the hand-painted decoration- it’s free-flowing and exuberant- again obvious it has come from the hands and heart of a person and not a machine.
The khaki colouring contrasts well with the vibrant blues- this piece has a happy pop of colour that all retro pottery is famous for but they’re earthy colours- these are the colours of the sky, forests and ocean so this piece would nestle well into any space where you’re trying to bring the view outside your windows into your space. This piece easily competes with Bitossi’s designs but the hand-painted decoration has more technical skill than Bitossi pieces. I recently saw a Bitossi pig sell on ebay for AU $450 which makes this piece a no-brainer investment as well. This piece is of the same era and because it’s marked to the base it has the same investment appeal as Bitossi pieces.
This VINTAGE pottery piece has been telling stories for around 60 years and has already proven itself to supersede trends. I can’t see it ever going out of style- anything vintage that has been made by hand and displays high artistic merit will always be sought-after. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce landfill.

This pig is in excellent condition considering her age and travels. There are NO cracks, NO repairs and NO chips. She has a few very minor signs of use and age but nothing at all that warrants a mention. The piece has some very feint crazing as you’d expect of any vintage pottery piece- this is of no significance to the structure or display of the piece and has been mentioned for total accuracy only. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
