Background Info and Provenance
An incredible shell lamp from the 1950’s that’s been hand-painted with a sailing-ship on the ocean. I’ve never seen anything like this before. The hand-painted scene on the lamp is alone worth this asking price. It has been very skilfully done and is really eye-catching. I love how the reflection on the water matches the reflection of the light on the inside of the lamp. It makes for a piece that attracts your attention immediately.
This one has been enjoyed at home for several years. I’ve really fallen for it but another lamp has just arrived so unfortunately this one now must find a new home. I’m not a hoarder and never have been. It is only through moving something out of our lives that we can invite new, exciting things in. This business has become a reminder for me of that wisdom every day.
(The shells are both real). The timber base is also real. This lamp is also bringing a lot of prana (life-energy) into your home.
These shell lamps from the 1950’s have been changing hands less and less over time. After many modern pieces have lost favour and ended up as landfill, this vintage shell lamp will only become more prized as it gets passed onto each new generation. (There’s also no more a perennial designer than Mother Nature herself so this one will never go out of style.) There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

This 1950s shell lamp is in excellent vintage condition. The cord and plug both work well and are in excellent condition. This lamp works well (as shown in the photos.) Because it’s used, I need to state for legal reasons that it’s a condition of purchase you have it checked by a qualified electrician prior to use. The inline switch is also in working condition. This retro shell lamp is about 70 years old but presents very well. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office).
