Background Info and Provenance

A space-age globe lamp made in Italy around 1970. The design is called Sirio. It was designed by Sergio Brazzoli and Ermanno Lampa for the Italian historical Design House, Guzzini. The details of the design are embossed under the lamp. Harvey Guzzini is probably the most influential lamp producer ever. Guzzini was responsible for producing an incredible array of lamp designs, some are now valued in the thousands. The Perspex animals I’ve sold in the past (there’s one online in iNVISeDGE at the time of writing) were also produced by Guzzini and are also a design sensation. Guzzini’s work was cutting edge back at the time and today some 40 to 50 years on, is still celebrated. This lamp is ingenious- incredibly simple but very clever in the way it throws the light out. Guzzini is a true trend setter- he dared to produce what many said would never sell.

This design is very rare- I’ve seen only two in Australia in ten years of being in this business. I’ve seen other Guzzini table lamps fetching $1000. If this piece will look great in your space it’s a very solid investment. This lamp should have as much investment appeal in the future as it does today (probably more). Joe Columbo lamps are now fetching ASU$700 each and they’re certainly around- this is in the same league but I doubt you’ll see another again. With the current throw-away mentality finally being questioned and the revolving door of wasted energy, time and resources cycling faster than ever as more and more stuff ends up as landfill it’s refreshing to come across an item that has stood the test of time for about 40 years and looks set to stand up to another 40. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and the future of our environment.
