Background Info and Provenance

This is easily one of the most stunning art glass pieces we’ve ever had. It was expertly HAND-CRAFTED in Sydney, Australia in the early-1990’s by Ian Johnstone. If this was done by Colin Heaney it’d easily fetch $300. (I think it’s nicer than most Heaney pieces I’ve ever had though.) The colours are rare for iridescent art glass and the workmanship is complex and beautifully done.

It looks stunning as part of a group. If you’re going to invest in art you personally need to love it. The piece spoke to me the second I saw it- I love the play of light and its flowing expressive nature. The texture adds to its appeal- this is a highly tactile piece. Ian Johnstone’s pieces are rare- much rarer than any Colin Heaney piece which also gives the piece solid investment appeal.

Art-glass pumped out of factories in the thousands by machines is cheap but rarely ignites any inspiration and passion- most ends up as landfill within a few years because after the trend has moved on the piece is basically worthless. Ian Johnstone’s work shows an artist’s heart and soul and the expertise of a master at the height of his game. Work of this standard supersedes trends and will continue to tell stories for generations to come. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and the future of our environment.
