Background Info and Provenance

An Azurene Lollipop vase designed by Michael Harris and William Walker in the late 1970’s. This is the LARGEST size for these- I’ve sold two small ones in the past for $180- this is well over double the weight of the small ones making it a great price for this piece. These were HAND-MADE by Isle of Wight studio from 1979 and became the studio’s most successful line being in constant production right up until 1996. The Azurene range became the hallmark line for Isle of Wight and won the British Design Council award in 1979. Michael Harris (who established Mdina Glass in the 1960’s) is one of the most celebrated glass designers ever. He’d be up there in a small group of about 5 or 10 who have heavily influenced art glass design over the years. I initially fell in love with Mdina glass but the classic style of many of the Isle of Wight pieces have also won me over. This piece is infused with 22-carat gold leaf on the surface in a precise and thoughtful manner. This combination had never been seen in glass design before Isle of Wight released this line.

In Australia, Isle of Wight pieces represent an astute investment. They are virtually never seen here. This piece also has the Isle of Wight sticker which further supports its investment appeal.

After most of the others have gone out of style, this HAND-MADE Isle of Wight piece will be passed onto yet another owner, a symbol that when something has been done well with thought and creativity it will live on. I bought this piece second-hand- it will no doubt change hands for a long time to come (generations). There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
