Provenance and Background Info
This awesome 1950’s Hallstand would be a unique talking point in any mid-century home. Its an iconic design by Jeam of Verona, and like everything else- the Italians did 1950’s kitsch better! Turquoise vinyl with black steel supports and cream edging, and a black vinyl cartouche of sparrows in the centre. Four hooks for hanging coats, hand-bags / bags and hats make this piece useful as well as startling in looks.
I love the Memphis-type flavour- the piece is significantly earlier than the early-1980’s but it does have that Memphis flavour- experimental, colourful, artful and just a tad crazy in style. Miss this one and I doubt you’ll ever come across anything like it ever again.
We can’t find a lot of information about Jeam, this maker of vinyl furniture. They operated out of Verona in the 1950s and 60s and seemed to love turquoise vinyl to the exclusion of all else! Which is cool coz turquoise is one of the best colours in the world. It’s a fun colour, but also works in every house (it works equally well in spaces with an ocean view as it does in spaces with greenery out the windows. After most modern designer furniture ends up as landfill, this quirky designer piece will be passed onto another custodian and then a whole new generation. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and the future of our environment. Items like this that were/are made to be passed onto future generations is our ONLY way out of this f&%$ing mess! :+)
